    POSITION OVERVIEW 

    The Copywriter partners with all areas of Marketing & Communications and internal business stakeholders to effectively communicate, position and promote Penn Mutual’s marketing programs, products and internal/external communications.  This position develops compelling and engaging content, materials and marketing plans across multiple audiences. 

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES 

    • Writes compelling, original, engaging and compliant content that is forward-thinking and aligned with brand personality and audience content consumption habits
    • Understands the organization’s diverse audiences and what resonates with them to develop content in a number of writing styles for a variety of audiences
    • Crafts copy for a range of materials such as social posts, blog stories, brochures, print ads, emails, website content, video scripts, and more
    • Experience in creating regular social media content that reflects a differentiated brand voice and story
    • Collaborates with writers, designers and video producers in the Content Studio, as well as with outside agency partners as needed
    • Ensures all content reflects the “voice” of Penn Mutual and follows our brand and style guidelines.
    • Involved in all elements of content creation, from brainstorming to final print production and deployment
    • Works closely and collaborates with business partners to help develop long-term and short-term material/content strategies and materials
    • Works closely with Compliance to ensure marketing materials meet regulatory requirements.
    • Builds and maintains strong, cooperative working relationships with a wide array of home office associates
    • Manages and supports special projects as assigned
    • Performs other duties as assigned

    Required Skills

    • Outstanding creative and technical writing ability
    • Can take complex ideas and translate them into simple, clear language that can be broadly understood by a wide audience of readers with extensive to no level of expertise
    • Able to think and write strategically while addressing and/or remaining cognizant of the tactical details
    • Excellent editing and proofreading skills
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Power Point
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Effective relationship, teamwork and communication skills
    • Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills
    • Keeps up with industry, marketing and communication trends
    • Willingness to learn new technologies and new marketing media
    • Quick, eager, curious and resourceful learner
    • Ability to make a positive contribution as demonstrated by learning new skills and making suggestions for process/procedure improvement
    • Ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment

    Required Experience

    • 3+ years in a marketing communications content development position (at least 2 years as a primary writer)
    • Financial services copy/creative experience that includes creating print and digital content (life insurance and annuities a plus)
    • Diverse portfolio of work to demonstrate authored and edited content for both digital and print media. (Writing samples required)
    • Experience managing multiple projects with competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, with impeccable attention to detail
    • Experience in helping to build and manage multi-faceted communications plans from inception through implementation
    • Experience working with outside vendors a plus

     

    EDUCATION/LICENSES/PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS 

    • BA or MA in English, Journalism, Communications, Creative and Technical Writing; or equivalent experience
