    POSITION SUMMARY :

    In this critical role, the Academic Support Specialist will play a pivotal part in cultivating a vibrant and supportive learning atmosphere. This position is tailored for those with a passion for design thinking , implementation , and a commitment to promoting student success in both academic and residential dimensions.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO

    • Manage student tracking data, reporting on performance indicators, and completion rates to identify trends and areas for improvement.
    • Utilize calendar and project management tools to stay on track and meet deadlines efficiently.
    • Compile reports on the effectiveness of academic and brand programs in alignment with PLC accreditation goals (some prior knowledge required).
    • Proven track record in effectively managing and integrating Learning Management Software (LMS) systems within an academic institution.
    • Ability to customize and optimize LMS platforms to align with faculty and curriculum needs, enhancing the learning experience.
    • Possession of certifications related to risk compliance within higher education, particularly in areas related to student support or other relevant domains.
    • Serve as point of contact for International Education projects (Faculty-led, Study Abroad, International Student engagement)
    • Facilitate collaboration between faculty and international partners, ensuring a seamless academic experience for students abroad.
    • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators to facilitate collaboration and foster a supportive academic environment.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve academic programs and services based on best practices in academic support.
    • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in academic support, international education, and compliance policies to mitigate risk and enhance the services provided.
    • Represent the Director of Education at meetings and conferences, sharing the institution's academic vision with a wider audience.

    Teaching Assistance:

    • Support the implementation of our course work: engaging workshops and activities, infusing design principles with a focus on advancing creative vision and progress.
    • Cultivate visually appealing and functional learning spaces that inspire innovation and contribute to PLC Detroit's mission of pushing the culture forward.
    • When classes in session this is 40% of this roles responsibility.

    Resourceful Coordinator:

    • Manage the inventory of academic resources, calendars, ensuring accessibility for our diverse talent pool.
    • Organize physical and digital spaces to optimize efficiency and productivity, aligning with PLC Detroit's commitment to career education and industry advancement.
    • Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement academic support initiatives, contributing to the progression of the product creation industry.

    Student Champion:

    • Provide one-on-one support to students facing academic challenges, including troubleshooting complex design concepts and offering guidance on best practices.
    • Connect students with appropriate resources and services, actively contributing to the creation of a better individual and collective future.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, extending support beyond academics to residence assistance needs.

    • Experience working in an academic and or design setting with students.
    • Strong design and visual communication skills.

    ** WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE**

    • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field.
    • Proven experience in academic support or educational administration.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills.
    • Ability and desire for travel
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • Interest and background in design, construction of materials and/or art
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
    • A passion for education and a commitment to student success.
    • Strong commitment towards HBCU models of education
    • Working knowledge of HubSpot, ASANA, InDesign and LMS (D2L)

    At PLC Detroit, we value diverse talents and offer competitive compensation packages. For this position, the annual base salary range falls within the Michigan state market for similar roles, estimated between $40,000 and $45,000 annually.
