    Our client, a premier college preparatory school for gifted learners, is seeking an experienced, talented, empathetic and problem solver Assistant Head of School. This position will work with the Head of School to advance the school's mission and achieve educational and operational goals. The Assistant Head of School will represent the Head of School, as needed, at meetings or functions within and outside of the school community.  In conjunction with the Head of School and other key administrators, the Assistant Head of School will set the direction for school philosophy, long-term planning, curricular design and strategic initiatives.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Administration

    • Assist in overseeing the daily overall operation of the school, administrative staff and office functions.
    • Conduct daily “walk abouts” to observe teachers and students in action, connect quickly with parents serving in various roles, redirect student behavior, and help ensure safety of all.
    • Oversee the development of faculty and staff.
    • Work with all appropriate parties to ensure the safety of the school environment and facilities.
    • Meet with prospective students and parents, assessing student readiness and providing recommendations.
    • Conduct weekly faculty meetings.
    • Inform Head of School of difficulties and achievements in the instructional process through weekly meetings.
    • Facilitate good stewardship and necessary improvements to the physical building aesthetic by reporting issues to responsible parties and tracking response.
    • Approve request and allocation of curricular supplies, school supplies, equipment and eBooks.

    Curriculum and Programs

    • Remain connected to current educational research and collaborate with faculty to implement evidence- based principles into the curriculum and overall program.
    • Continually implement and also enrich established curriculum. Frequently evaluate strengths and weaknesses of current curriculum and program with appropriate faculty; provide leadership and support for the development and implementation of new curricular components and programs as necessary.
    • Prepare exam schedule, class schedules for students and teachers in all grades.
    • Supervise the preparation of all school reports and cumulative records.
    • Oversee department heads in their mentoring responsibilities, including quantity/quality of homework, quizzes, and tests.
    • Participate in parent-teacher conferences as appropriate.
    • Oversee planning for field trips.

    Students, Parents and Community

    • Develop relationships with individual students to ensure each child's uniqueness is nurtured and character is developed.

    • Regularly lead or attend extra-curricular activities.

    • Cultivate strong parent/faculty relationships through advisors, conferences with parents and consistent communication between faculty and parents.

    • Facilitate the relationship between faculty and parent/teacher groups.

    • Provide a sounding board for parents to voice ideas, questions and concerns about the school through both an “open door” policy and scheduled opportunities. Help to mitigate any conflict that arises between parents, parents/teachers, parents/students.

    • Participate in parent/teacher conferences as needed.

    • Proven record of quickly assimilating into new environments, identifying areas for improvement and affecting change, while cultivating positive relationships.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

    • Master's Degree in a related field (Psychology, Sociology, Education, Social Work, etc.) with several years of experience as a classroom teacher, ideally in a K-8 school setting. Private school experience a big plus.
    • Required: Experience in Curriculum Mapping (Atlas, preferred) and experience in working with students with learning disabilities.
    • Although not required, a LSSP Certification is highly desired.
