    Job Description

    You are passionate about participatory democracy and excited to use your communications skills to transform how democracy works around the world. You have several years of experience producing powerful content, connecting with diverse audiences, and spreading new ideas. As our first communications hire, you will develop new strategies, systems, and content for building broader support for participatory democracy. Your ability to communicate in clear, accessible, and effective ways for global audiences will be essential. You will be supervised by the Executive Director and work closely with our staff, member organizations, and partners around the world. Location is flexible and remote for now, though long term location in New York City is welcome. We welcome applications from candidates anywhere in the world.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Communications planning and management: Develop and carry out organizational communications plan, including running major communications campaigns to support organizational goals.
    • Mass communications: Manage curation of newsletters, email blasts, announcements, and other mass communication to contacts and supporters.
    • Publications and materials: Manage production and design of organizational reports, promotional materials, and publications (such as annual reports and policy briefs).
    • Social media: Manage messaging and content for organizational social media (including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn) in multiple languages.
    • Website: Manage content production, blog, and maintenance for organizational website, with staff.
    • CRM: Maintain contacts and lists in CRM. Manage mass email communications through the CRM, and analyze CRM data to increase online engagement with contacts.
    • Press outreach and engagement: Manage organizational communication with the media and responses to press inquiries. Build relationships with international media and manage press releases.
    • Capacity-building: Build staff, board, and member capacity to carry out communications work, including training, collaboratively developing content and materials, and supporting communications campaigns.
    • General team participation: Participate in organization-wide calls and activities, including contributing content to activities. Lead applicable staff and board calls/meetings, contribute to meeting agenda planning.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Passion for community empowerment, equity, and participatory democracy.
    • At least three years of relevant work experience, including experience with high level strategy and management of marketing, communications, campaign management, and social media.
    • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to communicate complex information in clear, compelling, and accessible ways that translate well across languages and contexts.
    • Experience with CRMs. Comfortable analyzing and acting on data across contact management, Google Analytics, and social media platforms.
    • An eye for design. Demonstrated proficiency with G Suite, website maintenance, and Adobe Creative Suite. Html/css experience a plus.
    • Excellent project management skills, including attention to detail and deadlines, and the ability to organize, prioritize, and effectively delegate work.
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to contribute effectively to a highly collaborative and democratic organization.
    • Proficiency in English. Proficiency in at least one other language is ideal.
    • Experience living and working in multiple countries, including in the Global South.
    • We understand that there are a wide variety of paths towards the skills necessary for the position. As such, there are no formal educational requirements, as long as the applicant can demonstrate mastery of the desired skills. We do, however, value experience gained through educational programs.

    BENEFITS

    $60,000-80,000 annual salary for candidates in the US, or equivalent salary adjusted for cost of living elsewhere.
