  • Responsibilities

General Description: People Serving People is starting a five year learning process and partnership to explore the problem of family homelessness that overwhelmingly impacts African American and Native American families through a whole family systems approach. Whole family approaches to policy and practice offer the opportunity to explicitly recognize the relationship between parent/caregiver and child and create opportunities for addressing needs of both children and parents, together – at the individual, organizational, and systems levels. We will build on organizational programs and practices where this work has already started.

People Serving People will be joined in this work by a Core Family team of people with lived experience of homelessness. Members of the Core Team also include community coalition Mill City Kids and systems collaborator Hennepin County Office to End Homelessness. We will partner with the State of Minnesota’s Department of Human Services and the Future Services Institute at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs.

We will begin our inquiry and learning on this big, broad and tangled problem through exploring areas that include access to childcare and quality early childhood education and preventing the re-occurrence of the experience of family homelessness. We will approach this whole family problem exploration through a few different and important lenses: racial equity, trauma responsiveness, family directed, culturally competent, and holistic or through an interconnected analysis.
