    People Serving People is seeking a full-time Multi-Support Teacher at our Shelter. The Multi-Age Support Teacher fills in as lead or assistant teacher during classroom teacher’s absences, vacations, prep times, breaks, or during teacher transitions and provides support to teachers as needed. Must be able to work and plan in a team setting, with patience, enthusiasm and respect for children, as well as parents and fellow staff. The Multi-Age Support Teacher will also perform administrative duties as needed. The Multi-Age Support Teacher will maintain an environment that nurtures and aids the development of children ages 6 weeks – 5 years. Must support our classrooms, that are based on a philosophy of trauma informed principles and goals. This teacher will assist 3 classrooms; our Infant Classroom (6 weeks-18 months), Toddler Classroom (18 months-3 years), and Preschool Classroom (3 years-5years) as needed. This is a shared position between the People Serving People shelter location and our offsite Center of Excellence location. The Early Childhood Development Program classrooms at the shelter location (614 S 3rd St, Minneapolis) are the primary location of this position, however the Multi-Age Support Teacher will be the first on-call to fill in at our Center of Excellence location (2400 Park Ave, Minneapolis) if they have teacher absences or need extra support.

    Education Required: Must have BA or BS in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Child Development or related field OR CDA credential, Child Care Specialist Certificate or Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Certificate, OR 4,160 hours of early childhood experience along with 24 quarter credits related to Child Development.

    Essential Functions of the job:

    Teaching:

    Understands the social-emotional developmental needs of children.

    Understands the impact of toxic stress and trauma on children and their families, and can implement and build on the trauma-informed framework developed in the classrooms.

    Understanding of and willingness to implement sensory integration in the classroom.

    Assists in planning and facilitating curriculum for young children in a developmentally appropriate setting based heavily in social-emotional development.

    Encourages and teaches pre-literacy, communication, social skills, cognitive and other developmental skills.

    Welcomes, and talks with parents as needed.

    Observes, evaluates, and assess children’s progress in collaboration with classroom teachers.

    Observes and reports on physical, emotional, intellectual and social development of children and works closely with Minneapolis Public Schools for referrals and screening.

    Assist with meal prep and delivery within the building.

    Maintains clean classroom appearance by organizing, cleaning, and sanitizing daily.

    Works with children experiencing difficulty as assigned.

    Administration:

    Knowledge and understanding of DHS Rule 3.

    Collaborates with People Serving People Programs and Staff as needed.

    Completes first aid and Red Cross certified CPR training every 2 years.

    Completes 24 hours of yearly in-service training

    Completes required trainings and documentation for Parent Aware rating

    Performs other duties assigned by the Classroom Teachers and/or Early Childhood Assistant Manager

    Computer Skills: Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft applications. Ability to check email.

    Other Qualifications:

    Experience as an assistant teacher, aide, or student intern in an early childhood center.

    Experience serving multi-cultural, socially diverse population desired.

    First aid and CPR certified or willing to be certified within 90 days.
