    General Description:

    The Institutional Giving Officer is an essential member of the development team. This position leads the organization’s efforts to build meaningful partnerships and gain vital funding from corporations, foundations, and community groups. They will work with the Development Director to create annual goals and strategies for raising institutional support, while following the Community Centric Fundraising principles. They will identify potential partners, cultivate relationships with current and potential funders, create effective funding proposals, and ensure proper use of funds, including meeting reporting requirements. Areas of focus include grants, corporate gifts, and event sponsorships. This position works with multiple departments to gather funding needs of various programs, create realistic budgets, communicate grant requirements, summarize outcomes, and create engagement opportunities for corporations. The Institutional Giving Officer also serves as a manager in the development department, helping to lead the department’s direction, goals, and values. Education Required:

    Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Psychology, Sociology, Journalism, or related field. Hours and Benefits:

    Essential Functions of the job:

    Identification:

    Assess funding needs of organization, from one-time projects to ongoing needs to future strategies

    Research new and existing corporate and foundation funders through news sources, online tools, networking, and conferences

    Cultivation:

    Identify potential donors to approach

    Create annual cultivation strategy for engaging new donors and maintaining relationships with current donors

    Build relationships through one-to-one meetings, communications, information sharing, and acknowledgements

    Resource Procurement:

    Create an annual grants and sponsorship calendar that will meet the organization’s funding needs, while following the Community Centric Fundraising principles

    Compose effective, professional grant applications that accurately describe the organization’s work and the fit between organization and funder

    Submit proposals and required reports in a timely manner

    Coordinate site visits, including preparing summaries for attendees, holding preparatory meetings, and facilitating the visits

    If assistance is needed, work with the Development Associate, Director of Development, and volunteers to delegate writing duties

    Sponsorship Solicitation:

    Work closely with the Community Relations Manager to identify sponsorship opportunities

    Create sponsorship packages that will resonate with corporations

    Identify potential and existing sponsors

    Cultivate relationships with potential and existing sponsors throughout the year

    Hold one-on-one meetings with potential and existing sponsors to understand their needs and explain our opportunities

    Submit effective, professional sponsorship proposals in a timely manner

    Track statuses of sponsorship requests

    Ensure Community Relations Manager has the information needed to follow through on sponsorship commitments

    Inter-Department and Cross-Team Communication:

    Work closely with development team members to meet overall development goals, engage in department efforts, support co-workers, and contribute to a cohesive, close team

    Build relationships across teams that inform funding needs, allow for accurate descriptions of work, empower guests and students, and ensure accurate use of funds

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Supervise volunteers and interns, if appropriate, to further institutional giving efforts.     Preferred Qualifications:

    · At least two years in a grant writing position or applicable fundraising position
