    Position Summary:
    We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Research Scientist.

    In this role, the successful candidate The Center for Surgical and Transplant Applied Research (CSTAR) at NYU
    Langone Health is seeking a per diem Senior Research Scientist to support
    research involving artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced data
    analytics. CSTAR is a leading research center dedicated to advancing organ
    donation and transplantation through innovative, data-driven approaches.
    The Senior Research Scientist will provide advanced scientific and technical
    expertise for research involving artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML),
    large language models (LLMs), natural language processing (NLP), and the
    analysis of structured and unstructured healthcare data. Working independently
    within the scientific framework established by CSTAR faculty and principal
    investigators, the Senior Research Scientist will help design and execute
    complex research projects intended to generate real-world evidence and
    improve clinical decision-making in transplantation, surgery, and general
    medicine.
    CSTARs mission is to make organ donation and transplantation accessible and
    successful. The center conducts research that informs clinical practice and
    national policy and collaborates with clinicians, researchers, patients, community
    partners, professional organizations, and policymakers. This per diem position
    will provide specialized expertise to support evolving research needs and
    discrete research projects across the center.

    Job Responsibilities:

    Initiate, design, organize, and execute complex research projects involving AI, ML, LLMs, and NLP in transplantation, surgery, and general medicine.

    Provide senior-level scientific and technical leadership for the analysis of structured and unstructured healthcare data, including electronic health records, clinical notes, surgical documentation, and multi modal datasets.

    Develop, implement, validate, and evaluate predictive models and other AI-based methods for clinical outcomes, patient stratification, risk assessment, and healthcare decision-making.

    Develop new research questions, analytical approaches, techniques, and methodologies that advance CSTARs scientific mission.

    Independently assess methodological and technical challenges and recommend scientifically rigorous solutions.

    Collaborate with principal investigators, clinicians, analysts, research staff, and external collaborators to translate clinical and operational challenges into feasible research studies and AI applications.

    Provide scientific oversight and guidance related to study design, model development, validation, interpretation, and reporting.

    Establish and apply procedures for data quality control, reproducibility, documentation, and validation of AI-assisted research.

    Ensure the timely and accurate completion of assigned research projects and deliverables.

    Coordinate research activities and analytical approaches across investigators, clinical teams, technical staff, and collaborating institutions.

    Identify and resolve scientific, methodological, and technical problems affecting research projects.

    Prepare and make significant contributions to manuscripts, abstracts, scientific reports, presentations, and other scholarly products.

    Present research findings at scientific meetings, conferences, seminars, and internal research forums.

    Contribute to grant applications and funding proposals, including the development of research strategies, analytical plans, and preliminary findings.

    Provide technical and scientific guidance to research staff, analysts, trainees, and other members of the research team, as appropriate.

    Maintain current knowledge of advances in AI, ML, LLMs, NLP, healthcare technology, transplantation research, and responsible AI practices.

    Ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements related to research conduct, data security, patient privacy, and the ethical use of AI in healthcare.

    Participate in CSTAR meetings, seminars, committees, and interdisciplinary collaborations, as requested.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    To qualify you must have a PhD and 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Advanced expertise in AI, ML, LLMs, NLP, data science, computer science,
    biostatistics, mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
    Substantial research experience, including postdoctoral training or
    comparable independent scientific experience.
    Strong programming and analytical skills and experience working with
    large-scale healthcare datasets.
    Established record of peer-reviewed publications and scientific
    presentations.
    Experience developing or evaluating AI applications using electronic health
    records, clinical text, or other sensitive healthcare data.
    Demonstrated interest or experience in transplantation, surgery, or
    applications of AI in medicine.
    Experience contributing to multidisciplinary grant applications and funded
    research projects.
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to
    collaborate effectively across clinical, scientific, and technical disciplines.
    Ability to work independently

    NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $35.71 - $54.95 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
