Job Description. I need one mover to be my right hand guy Monday through Friday. We move students, military folks, federal government workers & urban professionals from 1 bedroom apartments & efficiencies around DC, Fairfax County & Montgomery County. We also do a lot of pickup & deliveries for folks buying furniture off the internet. All jobs are completed with a 10' box truck. We also rearrange furniture in residences and move people from one apartment to another in the same building. Most jobs range from 2 - 4 hours. However, there may be some jobs that will be longer. Wage. Cash paid daily. Tips shared. The tips in this business can be pretty good. For jobs that are 2 hours or less, $25 per hour with a 2 hour minimum. If the job stretches past 2 hours the wage turns into $20 per hour. For example, 2.5 hours is $50, 3 hours is $60 and so on. Your time starts when we arrive at the jobsite and ends when the job is completed. Travel time during the job counts to the hourly rate. Travel time before the job starts and after the job is over does not count to the hourly rate. Part time only. 15 - 30 hours per week. There are some days where there will only be one job that might be 2 hours or less. Sometimes there will be 2 jobs a day. Most jobs range from 2 - 4 hours. However, there may be some jobs that will be longer. Strength & Endurance. This job requires extreme physical endurance & stamina. We will be walking up and down stairs with couches, armoires, dressers. You must be able to lift heavy items (75lbs. or more). A lot of stairs. A lot of heavy lifting for extended periods of time. If you are not in good physical shape this is not the job for you. Experience & Attitude. Experience is a plus but am willing to train the right candidate. Must follow directions. Good attitude required. Yes, that couch is heavy and it won't fit in the elevator so we have to walk it up 3 flights of stairs. Yes, it looks like a bomb exploded in the customer's apartment because they started packing the night before. So what. We're getting paid good money to work out. People skills. Very important. Patience & professionalism with stressed out customers is a must. Most customers are cool but some are not. I don't accept disrespectful behavior from customers and I don't expect my movers to accept it either however we have to give the customer some leeway because moving is stressful. Punctuality. I am willing to drive to your residence or meet at some location to pick you up. If I have to wait 8-15 minutes for you after the pickup time, this is not going work. That means we'll be late for the job which puts an already stressed out customer in a bad mood which makes my job that much harder. Phone. Talking & texting on the phone while driving in the truck is cool. Using your phone on the job site is not. Customers don't like seeing their movers talking & texting on the phone when they are paying $80 per hour for their time. Even if you have a Bluetooth phone, you are not giving your full attention to the task at hand and bad things usually happen from there. Cigarettes. I don't care if you smoke cigarettes - as long as you smoke in the truck while we are driving. If you have to smoke cigarettes on the job site constantly this is not the job for you. Drugs/Alcohol. No drugs or alcohol. Smelling like weed or alcohol is unacceptable. If you smell like weed or alcohol on the day of the job, you won't be working. Northern Virginia. This job candidate ideally lives in Fairfax or Arlington County Virginia. If you don't live with 10 miles of Northern Virginia it's just not going to work due to the traffic. If I have only one job scheduled for the day that is 2 hours or less, it's not going to be worth your time to travel to Fairfax County from Baltimore, Woodbridge or some other distant location for $50. This is a 1099 Subcontractor position so you will be filling out a W-9 form. A valid driver's license & social security number are required.
