    About Us

    The Boys & Girls Club/Geneva Community Center (BGC/GCC) in Geneva is an organization committed to providing safe, educational, & engaging opportunities for local youth & families. The children who attend (“members”) are provided with food, homework assistance, learning activities, & recreational time. The Performing Arts Specialist will enhance the music & dance programming offered especially during our School Age Child Care (SACC) program, which takes place after-school and during school breaks, with the potential of coordinating or leading additional activities for toddlers, seniors, and other members of the community.

    Proposed Job Description/Duties & Responsibilities

    Prioritize the health & safety of all youths, adhering to NY State Childcare Regulations, site Health & Safety Plans, & BGC Employee Handbook

    Plan, organize, prepare, & lead educational activities for youths

    Provide adequate, engaged supervision for the youths in your area or group

    Take accurate attendance during daily programs

    Assist with supervision when youths are being transported, as assigned

    Ability to work in a face-paced environment

    Safeguard confidentiality of members

    Clean area after use

    Inventory supplies, alerting supervisor if any materials are needed

    Conduct daily safety checks, health checks, & periodic drills, as required

    At all times maintain a professional appearance demeanor reflective of the high level of quality, standards, & expectations promoted by BGC

    Supervise activities to ensure that learners interact in a supportive & respectful manner

    Participate in weekly site meetings & 1-on-1 meetings with supervisor

    Alert supervisor to any safety concerns or other issues that may impact the health & well-being of youths in the program

    Many of the expectations of the Performing Arts Specialist overlap with our Activity Coordinators:

    Performing Arts-Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    Prepare interesting & engaging activities focused on music/dance/performing arts; provide age-/developmentally- appropriate instruction on styles/techniques

    Encourage creativity & self-expression among members

    Be attentive & responsive to themes in members' art that might indicate distress in their personal lives or behaviors that suggest an issue (share concerns with supervisor)

    Prep the program space as needed (setting up dance/theater props, instruments, etc.)

    Instruct members on the proper use of equipment & instruments, as applicable, as well as safe ways to move in the space

    Work with youths to develop songs, dances, shows, etc. to perform at Family Fun Nights, Open Houses, & other BGC/GCC events

    Coordinate with local musicians, artists, & other performers to bring a variety of opportunities to the Club (such as lessons, performances, Q&A sessions, workshops, multi-week series)

    Required Qualifications

    At least 18 years of age

    High School Diploma and/or at least 1 year of experience working with youths – time spent working with youths in a performing arts capacity preferred

    Communication & organization skills

    Flexibility, willingness to step up & step in to help, as needed (may be asked to substitute in different areas other than the one to which you’re primarily assigned)

    Dedication to acting with maturity, professionalism, & respect to coworkers, youths & families; ability to work with youths & adults from various backgrounds (including, but not limited to: age, socioeconomic status, race, sexual orientation, ability…)

    Commitment to being a positive role model for youths, encouraging inclusion, teamwork, good sportsmanship, growth mindset, & kindness/respect

    Willingness to assist with transportation or supervision while youths are being transported

    Work Environment

    This is a part-time, in-person position, serving at one or both of our two Geneva sites. The employee in this position will report to the Site Supervisor at their location, & will be expected to demonstrate a high level of maturity, professionalism, patience, & respect. The anticipated pay rate is $19.50/hour, with a typical schedule of Monday through Friday. During the school year, hours will be 2 or 2:30pm to 6:30pm, plus additional mandatory trainings (announced in advance). In the summer, the Performing Arts Specialist will likely work 12pm to 5:30pm, Monday through Thursday, plus 8:30am to 5:30pm on Fridays, unless directed otherwise. Note: The schedule above is for the SACC program; the person in this position has an opportunity to lead/facilitate additional programming in the mornings, evening, and weekends, with approval by the Program Director.
