Job Title: Permanent Supportive Housing Tech Specialist Organization: Life Is Work Location: Chicago, IL Reports to: Housing Program Manager Employment Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Position Overview:
The Permanent Supportive Housing Tech Specialist plays a critical role in assisting individuals served by Life Is Work’s housing programs to locate, secure, and maintain affordable and permanent housing. The Specialist provides direct support throughout the housing search process, navigates complex application systems for government housing programs, and advocates on behalf of clients to resolve issues related to housing stability.
Key Responsibilities:
Housing Search & Placement:
Conduct comprehensive housing searches tailored to individual client needs, identifying suitable permanent and affordable housing options.
Facilitate connections between clients and potential landlords/property managers.
Maintain a current, accurate database of housing opportunities.
Application and Advocacy:
Assist clients in accurately completing applications for public and subsidized housing programs.
Guide clients through eligibility requirements and document gathering necessary for successful housing placement.
Provide advocacy support to clients, engaging with landlords, property managers, and government agencies to resolve housing-related disputes or challenges.
Budget and Financial Counseling:
Provide personalized budget counseling to help clients understand and manage their financial responsibilities, ensuring ongoing housing stability.
Educate clients on their rights and responsibilities as tenants.
Coordination with Community Agencies:
Work collaboratively with legal services, social service agencies, healthcare providers, and other community resources to ensure clients receive holistic and integrated support.
Attend community meetings and trainings to stay informed about housing trends, policy changes, and local resources.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain detailed and accurate client records, documenting progress, challenges, and outcomes.
Regularly report client outcomes and program effectiveness to Housing Program Manager.
Qualifications:
Minimum of two years' experience in supportive housing, social work, case management, or related fields.
Knowledge of affordable housing resources, public housing processes, and subsidy programs (e.g., Section 8, Housing Choice Vouchers).
Strong advocacy and interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate and resolve conflicts.
Excellent organizational and communication skills (written and verbal).
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, or related field.
Previous experience working with individuals facing homelessness, re-entry challenges, or living with HIV.
Familiarity with Chicago’s local housing laws and resources.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to travel locally to meet with clients, landlords, and community partners.
Regular use of computer and office equipment.
