This role will be responsible for the development, plan, and lead cost formula, process improvement and waste elimination activities to ensure operation excellence. It is responsible for the commercialization of new and innovative food product ideas, as well as to improve quality and performance of current products. Working with a cross-functional team will lead the transition of new product from bench to manufacturing.

• Develop new products and improve current products.
• Lead new product development and product improvement projects through product development and change control processes.
• Liaise with internal and external customers; communicate project status, respond to change requests, and present products.
• Prepare bench top samples and evaluate ingredient and process performance of product against product attributes and customer specifications.
• Plan, coordinate and conduct pilot plant trials.
• Document processes, ingredients and results related to bench top samples, production tests and product evaluations.
• Evaluate test and production data and make improvement recommendations.
• Provide product formula, ingredients, yields, throughputs, etc. for product costing. Review costing estimates as proposed by operation.
• Facilitate product commercialization. Establish and implement specifications. Communicate with plant management during transition from development mode to full production.
• Assist regulatory team to create product labeling and submit for USDA approval.
• Identify opportunities to drive top line business growth via new and improved ingredient, technologies, and processes.
• Develop and apply test plans for potential new ingredient and equipment and make recommendations for feasibility and use.
• Ability to consume all protein products of all types created and presented.
• Work with R&D team members in support of assigned projects or related tasks.
• This role has the responsibility to understand and places in practice appropriate safety procedures. This responsibility is achieved through education, training, use of protective equipment (as applicable) and by following safety policies, regulations, standards, and laws.

Required Skills
• 1-3 years of experience in related field is preferred.
• Experience in food product research and development preferred.
• Ability to apply food science skills to food product development in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects successfully and to conclusion.
• Ability to communicate effectively with members of sales, management, customers, and others.
• Excellent proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite Products.
• BA/BS or equivalent is preferred.
• Work can be performed within a manufacturing plant environment with noise, extreme temperatures, and significant movement of powered equipment, people and conveyor (may depend on the role).
• Work conditions are typical of an R&D Center.
• This role requires 30%+ domestic travel.
• Position may require the physical agility of lifting up to 50 pounds
• Position may require frequent and/or infrequent of bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, stretching/reaching, use hands or fingers, talk, hear, feel objects, tools, controls and standing/walking on concrete flooring.
• Position may require the physical ability to stand/walk for Greater than 4 hours.
