Reliable, compassionate, and energetic Personal Care Assistant for a young adult with mild cerebral palsy, autism and intellectual disabilities including daily living activities, community engagement, and personal care. The ideal candidate is someone who can act both as a caregiver and a peer companion, helping to encourage independence, social engagement and activities, and the enjoyment of exceptional quality life. This role requires someone who is patient, proactive, and comfortable with hands-on care at home and in the community.
Core Responsibilities
Daily Living Support: Assist with routine daily tasks, including personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and meal preparation.
Creative & Physical Engagement: Utilize specialized skills to engage in enriching activities, including:
Music & Dance: Using music as therapy to boost mood, motor skills, and creative expression.
Yoga & Wellness: Encourages gentle, adaptive yoga poses and breath-work for mobility, strength and relaxation before during and after yoga classes.
Swim & Aquatic Support: Certified lifeguard and/or swim Instructor, paddle-boarder or water lover, is a plus to provide a safe, fun, and therapeutic aquatic sessions, including in-water support and instruction.
Therapy Implementation: Assist with incorporating therapeutic exercises and session in speech, occupational, and/or physical therapy, into daily routines to promote further independence.
Community Integration: Accompany on community outings, social events, and recreational activities to encourage independence, social skills and courtesy.
Peer Mentoring: Act as a confidant and ally, empowering self-directed decisions and expressions.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
CPR and First Aid: (Required).
Specialized Skillsets: Experience and/or strong proficiency in music, dance, yoga, aquatic, and equestrian activities.
Caregiving Skills: Previous experience working with individuals with special needs (cerebral palsy, autism, intellectual disabilities, etc.).
Attributes: Interactive with high energy, immense patience, creativity, adaptability, and an empathetic, positive attitude.
