We are searching for a detail-oriented, organized, and experienced personal injury paralegal to join our legal team. You will prepare briefs, create legal documents such as affidavits, do legal research for trial preparation, and keep case files and other key materials organized and easily available. To draft a factual response to discovery, we need someone with expertise in ordering, evaluating, and summarizing medical documents. You will also have past experience assisting with family settlement negotiations and mediation in order to avoid lawsuits. Responsibilities: • Talk with service providers or insurers about possible settlements for liens, bills, and medical expenses • Help attorneys create legal pleadings, paperwork, and correspondence, including interrogatories, subpoenas, deposition notifications, complaints, pretrial orders, legal briefs, and affidavits • Work with lawyers to prepare for trial by researching legal articles, preparing and organizing exhibits, organizing and coordinating witnesses, submitting motions, and aiding with client meetings • Set up a system of filing for our cases that is well-organized and easy to navigate, and other related admin duties • Order, review, and summarize medical records for preparing factual response to discovery • Handle significant pre-litigation caseload from file setup and intake through demand negotiation, settlement, lien negotiation, etc. • Handle moderate litigation cases as needed; drafting pleadings, discovery requests, disclosure statements, etc. • Making and receiving calls, case-related calls. • Drafting letters and other documents related to balances, medical records, etc. • Organizing, reviewing, and summarizing medical records. • Filing, Calendaring, and other clerical and/or case-related duties. • Support attorneys with all aspects of case management, including billing, docketing deadlines, and providing reminders as needed. • Interface with staff, attorneys, and outside vendors to manage the law firm’s case load, present case summaries/updates, and ensure that deadlines are met. • Complete legal research to obtain documentation regarding medical records, health insurance, social security, and medical providers. • Inform clients and outside counsel on case status as requested. • Draft legal documents for attorney review. Qualifications: • Certification from the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) is highly preferred • Candidates should possess high-level organizational skills, and time-management skills • Must have 3-5 years of experience in legal services under an attorney or lawyer, preferably in a personal injury law firm • Must have strong interpersonal skills and talent for writing and grammar • Must have completed an ABA-approved paralegal certification program such as an Associate’s degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies, Bachelor’s degree desired • Candidate must have at least two years of Plaintiff Personal Injury experience. • Must be able to work in an office setting - this is an in-office position. • Hardworking, Team player. Bilingual (Spanish/English) is preferred. • Ability to take direction and follow instructions. • Effective organizational and communication skills, both written and oral, are needed. • Ability to multitask and stay self-motivated. • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet presentation, and case management. Compensation: $55,000 - $65,000+ yearly DOE plus other benefits available
