    A lien negotiator is responsible for negotiating and resolving liens on behalf of clients, often in personal injury cases, to maximize their financial recovery after a settlement. This involves analyzing claims, communicating with healthcare providers and insurance companies (including government programs like Medicaid, Medicare, VA, Tricare and Private Insurance), and preparing documentation to reduce outstanding balances before funds are disbursed. The role requires strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills to handle high volumes of cases.

    Key responsibilities

    Negotiate liens: Reduce and resolve medical liens from hospitals, doctors, and insurers, including government programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and Medi-Cal.

    Analyze claims: Review and analyze lien claims and related medical records and bills to determine the best strategy for negotiation.

    Communicate: Communicate with clients, attorneys, insurance adjusters, and lienholders via phone, email, and fax to gather information and secure agreements.

    Finalize cases: Work to finalize cases by obtaining final medical balances and ensuring lien releases are obtained after a settlement is reached.

    Manage documentation: Prepare documentation, maintain accurate files, and update case management systems with new information.

    Collaborate: Work with other legal team members, such as attorneys and case managers, to ensure smooth case progression.

    Client Interaction: Expected to communicate with clients' regularly to provide status updates

    Required skills and qualifications

    Strong negotiation and communication skills

    Analytical skills to review claims and medical information

    Understanding of medical billing and lien structures (e.g., ERISA, Medicare, hospital liens)

    Ability to manage a high volume of cases simultaneously

    Proficiency in using various communication methods, including phone, email, and online portals

    Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

    Must have at least one full year of lien negotiator experience
