Role Overview
The Groomer is responsible for delivering high‑quality grooming services while maintaining PPP’s standards of safety, cleanliness, and customer care. This role requires strong technical grooming skills, excellent communication, and a genuine love for animals. Groomers must be comfortable working with dogs of all breeds and sizes, as well as cats.
This position is labor‑intensive and requires standing for the majority of the shift.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate each pet’s coat, skin, temperament, and grooming needs
Create grooming plans based on client preferences and best practices
Bathe, shampoo, condition, and dry pets (dogs and cats)
Detangle and manage matted coats
Trim, shape, and style coats according to breed standards or owner requests
Clip and file nails
Clean ears and check for signs of irritation or infection
Administer flea/tick treatments as needed
Check skin for parasites, rashes, or abnormalities
Express anal glands when appropriate
Keep pets calm, safe, and comfortable throughout the grooming process
Communicate clearly with pet owners about grooming plans and results
Answer client calls and assist with scheduling
Enter appointments into PPP’s reservation management software
Maintain a clean, organized grooming area
Follow all PPP safety and sanitation protocols
Perform additional tasks as needed to support the health and safety of pets in our care
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of professional grooming experience preferred
Ability to lift and maneuver dogs up to 120 lbs
Skilled with grooming tools (clippers, shears, brushes, nail tools, ear cleaners, etc.)
Calm, confident demeanor to soothe nervous or anxious pets
Strong understanding of coat types, breed standards, and grooming techniques
Ability to recognize non‑verbal cues in animals
Completion of a grooming course or related animal‑care education is a plus
Strong customer service and communication skills
Detail‑oriented, reliable, and self‑motivated
Positive attitude and ability to work independently and as part of a team
Comfortable working with both dogs and cats
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage client expectations
Availability for evenings or weekends is a plus
