    Pharmacy Buyer – Hospital Pharmacy

    Our client is seeking an experienced Pharmacy Buyer to oversee the purchasing and inventory management of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies for their hospital pharmacy. This position plays a key role in ensuring medication availability, maintaining cost-effective procurement practices, and supporting compliance with 340B Drug Pricing Program requirements.

    Schedule: 7-on/7-off or 5x8 day shift

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage the procurement and inventory of medications, supplies, and related products for the pharmacy department.
    • Evaluate vendor quotes and negotiate pricing to ensure high-quality, cost-effective purchasing.
    • Maintain compliance with purchasing contracts and promote adherence to 340B program requirements.
    • Track and adjust inventory levels using pharmacy management systems to ensure adequate stock and prevent shortages.
    • Oversee the removal of outdated, recalled, or expired medications and manage waste through Stericycle and Inmar EXP Healthcare.
    • Collaborate with pharmacy staff and leadership to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve procurement workflows.
    • Process purchase orders and vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy and timely payment.
    • Provide training and support to staff on inventory management systems, contract compliance, and purchasing processes.
    • Communicate with the team regarding drug shortages, recalls, and high-cost medication management.
    • Support continuous quality improvement initiatives and departmental efficiency.

    Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field.

    • Current National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB)
    • Minimum 2 years of pharmacy purchasing experience; hospital pharmacy experience strongly preferred.
    • 340B program experience highly preferred.
    • BLS certification

    Knowledge & Skills

    • In-depth understanding of pharmaceutical procurement, logistics, and inventory control systems.
    • Proficiency with pharmacy software systems (e.g., McKesson, Omnicell, Parata Max, ScriptPro).
    • Strong analytical and negotiation skills to ensure competitive pricing and compliance.
    • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Effective communication and teamwork skills with a focus on customer service and collaboration.
    • Ability to adapt to evolving organizational needs and regulatory standards.
