    JOB SUMMARY

    The Plant Hygienist (Microbiologist) is responsible for identifying plant processes, procedures, practices, equipment, and raw materials that could contribute to microbial contamination.  The Plant Hygienist develops, oversees, and leads the manufacturing site’s environmental monitoring and hygiene programs.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Oversees and leads the environmental (i.e. water, air, surface) monitoring and hygiene programs.
    • Ensures site compliance with hygiene requirements.
    • Identify, control, prevent, and resolve microbiological concerns or issues that impact product quality.  
    • Communicate and escalate any findings to upper management, as needed.
    • Leads cleaning and sanitization verification activities including developing and executing protocols and reporting results.
    • Identifies and manages risks associated with changes to equipment, utilities, and procedures.
    • Monitors microbiology trends of raw materials, finished goods, and environmental monitoring to drive improvement initiatives.
    • Trains and provides direction to microbiology staff.
    • Conducts and documents out-of-specification and non-conformance investigations related to plant hygiene issues and develops and executes CAPA plans as needed.
    • Monitors production water quality, including validation/verification of system changes.
    • Develops and conducts periodic hygiene audits of the plant.
    • Assess cleaning and sanitization methods and recommends changes, as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    • B.S. Degree in Microbiology or B.S. in a related technical field (i.e. Chemistry , Biology, Engineering, etc.) with two years of Microbiology experience.
    • The ability to read, speak and understand English language.
    • Basic reading, math, and computer (Microsoft Office) skills are required.
    • At least 2 years quality experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in dietary supplements, food, or beverages.
    • Working knowledge of cGMP regulations.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Must be able to lift over 30 lbs.
    • Visual acuity required as this work deals largely with visual inspection involving small defects, handling small parts, operation of simple machines, using measurement devices, assembling products, and reviewing documentation for errors.
