Summary of Responsibilities
Our bridge construction company is looking for a Controller to join our team. Controllers should be able to successfully complete their tasks and are responsible for the financial and accounting functions of Pheifer Brothers Construction Company and affiliated entities.

Necessary Skills & Tasks for a Controller at Pheifer
· Maintain step by step Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P) for each task.
· Implementation of separation of duties.
• Divide accounting department responsibilities among multiple people.
• Get, open, scan, match up and enter all mail.
• Make deposits of checks received.
• Reconcile any type of ACH or wire transfer payment received/sent.
• Review and sign off on all outgoing payments.
• Review and sign off on each payroll.
• Quarterly, rotate duties so multiple people are experienced and ready to run payroll and payables should an emergency arise.
· Include President on all banking, financial, or other significantly relevant meetings.
· Supervision of one to two staff members.
• Mentoring direct reports to grow in their roles & responsibilities.
· Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of progress billings based upon specific contract terms.
· Review accounts receivable, aging reports and assist with Project Manager for billing.
· Supervise the payment process to vendors and subcontractors.
· Monitor daily cash balances to ensure requirements are met.
· Review and monitor the preparation of the weekly payroll for union and non-union employees, including the timely submission of monthly union reports.
· Perform special assignments as directed by Ownership.
Financial Reporting
· Create and present weekly reports to assist President in decision making processes.
• New Hires/ Vendors, Payroll, Payables, Line of Credit Usage, Unexpected/ Unauthorized Charges
· Preparation and review of monthly financial statements and debt schedule for Pheifer and related entities.
• Review financial statements and debt schedule with ownership.
· Create and present annual reports to assist President in their duties relating to overall revenue, Pheifer self-performed revenue, field hours worked, insurance premiums, and overall profitability in relation to years past.
· Track equipment maintenance costs by major asset and prepare reports on each assets annual cost of ownership for strategic planning purposes.
· Create budgets with ownership and update budgets monthly.
• Conduct budget update meetings with managers & President.
• Empower managers to manage their own budgets.
· Oversee the monthly job cost report process with the President and project managers for use in creating and updating contract schedules and updated work in progress reports for internal and external use.
· As needed, meet with the company’s bankers and bonding company to review financial results and forecasts.
Business and Health Insurance
· Responsible for the review and recommendation of insurance programs.
· Maintenance of insurance/risk protection program.
Retirement Programs
· Assist in the development, implementation and administration of Pheifer’s 401(k) plan and other employee benefits.
Strategic Planning
· Participate in the on-going strategic planning with the Pheifer leadership team.
· Perform due diligence and create projections with different scenarios.
· Prepare the annual financial budget and update the forecasts on a quarterly basis.
· Enforce “Separations of Duties” and “Approval Authority”.
