Job Summary:
As a Phlebotomist at Exponential Health, you will be responsible for skillfully and compassionately performing blood draws and managing laboratory specimens, while also serving in a supportive Medical Assistant capacity as needed. This dual-role position ensures a seamless and personalized experience for our members and reflects the collaborative nature of our care team. The ideal candidate will bring both technical precision and a polished, professional demeanor that aligns with our high standards of service.
Key Responsibilities:
Primary Phlebotomy Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures with exceptional skill and care.
- Label, process, and prepare specimens for internal or external laboratory analysis in accordance with established protocols.
- Ensure specimen integrity and compliance through proper handling, storage, and transportation.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, including Athena.
- Keep the phlebotomy area clean, stocked, and organized, anticipating clinical needs and supply levels.
- Provide clear, courteous communication to members during procedures, ensuring comfort and confidence.
Medical Assistant Backup Duties:
- Assist physicians with patient intake, including recording vital signs and updating medical histories in the EMR.
- Support minor procedures, examinations, and treatments as directed by clinical staff.
- Administer injections, immunizations, and medications per physician instruction, when appropriately credentialed.
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms to reflect a welcoming, efficient, and high-standard clinical environment.
- Help coordinate appointments, follow-ups, and member communications to support continuity of care.
- Educate members about basic health practices and clinical instructions, ensuring clarity and support.
- Collaborate with the broader team to ensure an outstanding, member-centered experience.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of phlebotomy experience in a clinical or laboratory setting; experience in concierge, luxury, or private practice is preferred.
- Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program; national certification (e.g., CPT) strongly preferred.
- Medical Assistant training or equivalent clinical experience required; certification (CMA/RMA) is a plus.
- EMR proficiency required, Athena experience highly desirable.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact gracefully with a discerning patient population.
- Highly organized with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to excellence in every task.
- Professional demeanor and polished appearance appropriate to a high-touch healthcare environment.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and standard infection control protocols.
