    Job Description

    NBCUniversal’s Owned Television station in Hartford, CT, is looking for a News Photographer to join our team. Candidates should have a strong commitment to creative and visual storytelling with excellent videography and editing skills. They should also possess the ability to produce daily content from the field independently or with partners and a desire to learn and evolve as new technologies are deployed. The successful candidate will be responsible for shooting and editing stories, including spot news and features.

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Perform news operations duties as needed.
    • Operate and maintain a professional quality video camera and related news gathering equipment.
    • Operate and maintain live equipment including live backpacks, microwave, and satellite technology
    • Work with reporters in the field to turn visually-creative, memorable stories as well as interesting, active live shots.
    • Gather video and still pictures for digital platforms
    • Work with catalog systems to save/store, record and locate necessary video
    • Produce and publish content to our online platforms
    • Gathers news facts and creates compelling stories when on assignment with or without a reporter.
    • Works with daily deadlines.
    • Performs other related duties that ensure high quality news coverage.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Minimum one year experience shooting videotape and knowledge of live remote capabilities in a top 50 Broadcast station.
    • Minimum one year experience operating live backpacks and ENG live/microwave trucks.
    • Minimum one year experience operating communication tools and staying connected with the newsroom (i.e. use of email software, cell phone, messaging tools, etc.)
    • Minimum one year experience editing stories.

    Eligibility Requirements:

    • Willingness to travel and work overtime, and on weekends with short notice
    • Must be willing to work at the station in West Hartford, CT
    • Ability to work any of a 24/7 shift, holidays, weekends and respond to breaking news events.
    • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
    • Must be a member or be willing to become a member of the IBEW union
    • Must submit a reel of own work to be considered.
    • Physical requirements required to perform medium/heavy physical work which includes: Lifting and carrying camera equipment ranging from 15 pounds to 30 pounds (in camera weight) for extended periods of time to shoot on remote locations.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license
    • Must be 18 years or greater
    • Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Program
    • Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal designated worksite.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • 5 years photography/editing experience in a medium or major market TV News station
    • Knowledge of P2 Panasonic cameras. Adobe Premiere and Edius Pro edit systems and Dalet Galaxy Newsroom systems
    • FAA Part 107 Commercial Drone certification and flight experience.
    • Proficient in asset management and file sharing programs including LMX and Latakoo
    • Team player who is flexible
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft 365
    • Demonstrated ability to enterprise, research and plan stories.
