    Pickering Creek is located on a tidal tributary of the Chesapeake Bay. The Center's 450 acres are a microcosm of Maryland's Eastern Shore. We seek an enthusiastic individual that is willing to inspire others about the natural world and take conservation action.

    Pickering Creek Audubon Center seeks a part-time School-Year Educator to assist in delivering our successful environmental education programs. The School-Year Educator will serve as integral to our education team; report to the center's Director of Education; and work closely with all center staff. They will maintain positive and friendly working relationships with the general public, volunteers, and local/regional community organizations and school groups.

    This is a part-time seasonal position through June 2, 2023 with an opportunity to return during fall and spring field seasons. Some weekends and evenings required. On-site and in-person programming required. Pickering Creek Audubon Center prioritizes following CDC and local guidance on maintaining a safe working environment for our team. Pickering Creek educators must show proof of vaccination against COVID-19.

    Salary: $15/hour, 7-28-hour work week

    Essential Functions –

    • Lead field-based and classroom environmental education programs including on Pickering Creek's 400 acres, at schools and partnering sites for pre-K, elementary, middle and high school students
    • Serve as a role model naturalist and environmental steward for students, teachers, community and public audiences
    • Work closely with other staff to plan and implement programs

    Additional Functions as directed –

    • Collaborate with other staff to prepare and lead public, community and volunteer programs for families, adults and youth
    • Assist with the care of buildings and grounds including weekly trail and habitat maintenance
    • Provide care for program animals including feeding and animal tank maintenance
    • Contribute to Center's public communications including social media and a weekly email digest

    The ideal candidate –

    • Enjoys hiking, birding, ponding, fishing, seining, planting and leading games for children of all ages
    • Has at least one year of experience teaching or working with children in a field-based or an online environment
    • Has an undergraduate degree in biology, education, environmental education, environmental science or a related field, or has relevant work experience
    • Is committed to the conservation of birds, other wildlife and habitats
    • Possesses excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills
    • Is an enthusiastic team player
    • Maintains a professional, friendly manner
    • Is self-motivated, with the ability to work with minimal supervision
    • Some level of Spanish proficiency a plus
