    Who They Are:

    Our key biotechnology client is looking for their next Senior Manager/Associate Director of Cost Accounting. The company strives to find, advance, and deliver progressive treatments for millions of people that are afflicted with diseases that other biotech companies don’t target.

    Their new Senior Manager/Associate Director of Cost Accounting will be responsible for monthly and quarterly accounting for inventory and the cost of goods sold. This position will report to the Director of Revenue who reports to the Chief Accounting Officer.

    • Revenue Team: Director of Revenue, Associate Director, Revenue, Revenue Manager and Senior Manager/Associate Director, Cost Accounting
    • The position is open due to growth and is an IC role.
    • Currently have 2 commercial products
    • Management style is to empower the team, giving them independence but also meeting with them to give them feedback on what to prioritize and answering any questions that they have trying to provide guidance to them.

    Top Requirements:

    • 7+ years of relevant accounting experience, including 5+ years of experience in a bio/pharma cost accounting role
    • ERP implementation experience with inventory and supply chain
    • Go to person on inventory and cost accounting and strong leadership and business partnering skills
    • Strong communication skills, ability to present financial information in a meaningful understandable way

     

    What you’ll do:

    • Prepare month/quarter closing journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and variance analyses for inventory and cost of goods.
    • Translate technical cost accounting literature, requirements, and policy into clear requirements for execution
    • Develop, maintain, and update standard costing methodology for all raw materials, WIP, and finished goods processes
    • Perform excess & obsolescence reserve analyses and coordinate with Manufacturing/Sales on sales forecasts
    • Work closely with the supply chain and FP&A commercial team to understand production schedules, contracts, inventory movements, and other supply chain matters in order to ensure inventory is fairly stated and classification is accurate
    • Internal accounting lead/liaison for the ERP implementation of inventory and supply chain modules
    • Review current product costing methodology and process and identify improvement opportunities
    • Provide support for the quarterly and annual financial reporting and disclosures related to inventory and cost of goods sold
    • Prepare or update technical accounting memo for inventory cost methodology
    • Perform lower cost or market analyses
    • Maintain and develop improvements for SOX controls related to costing and inventory
    • Oversee and perform, if necessary, annual physical inventory count
    • Manage accounts receivable for collaboration partner agreements, such as upfront fees, milestones, and royalties, including journal entries, billing, and collection
    • Collaborate with FP&A & R&D Accounting team on collaboration partner-related expense reimbursements, including review of the activity, journal entries, billing, and collection
    • Collaborate with FP&A & R&D Accounting team on other costs of product sales items for R&D license agreements and provide accounting guidance for the classification.
    • Prepare for and participate in external reviews and audits
    • Assist with the day-to-day accounting activities where needed
    • Work on special projects as required

     

    What you’ll bring:

    • BS/BA in Accounting/Finance and 7+ years of relevant accounting experience, including 5+ years of experience in a pharma cost accounting role
    • Currently operating at a manager level or above
    • Thorough understanding of standard cost accounting principles including capitalization of variances, E&O reserves, and experience with standard cost analysis
    • Excellent computer skills including advanced MS Excel (e.g. Pivot Tables, V-LookUps, data merges, filters, and if statements) and MS Word experience
    • Strong communication skills, ability to present financial information in a meaningful understandable way
    • Self-motivated and ability to work independently and collaboratively and strong organizational skills are essential
