Title: Quality Supervisor– Paper Manufacturing
Location: Lehigh Valley Area, PA
Reports To: Industrial Engineering Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Summary
The Quality Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all quality assurance activities within the paper manufacturing process. This role ensures that products meet customer specifications, regulatory standards, and internal quality requirements. The Quality Supervisor leads a team of quality technicians, coordinates inspections and testing, investigates defects, and partners with production leadership to drive continuous improvement in product consistency and manufacturing performance.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Oversight & Compliance
- Supervise daily activities of Quality Technicians, including inspections, testing, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with company quality standards, customer requirements, and ISO or applicable certifications.
- Oversee quality checks for raw materials, in-process paper, and finished goods.
Process Monitoring & Testing
- Review and verify test results for basis weight, thickness, moisture, brightness, tensile, caliper, and other paper properties.
- Monitor machine process controls, SPC charts, and quality data to detect trends or deviations.
- Coordinate calibration and maintenance of testing equipment.
Corrective Actions & Root Cause Analysis
- Investigate non-conformances, defects, and customer complaints.
- Lead problem-solving activities (5 Why, Fishbone, DMAIC, etc.).
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and verify effectiveness.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate quality records, inspection reports, and certification documents.
- Prepare quality performance reports, KPIs, and audit findings.
- Support internal and external audits.
Team Leadership
- Train, coach, and schedule Quality Technicians.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support employee development.
- Promote a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with production, maintenance, engineering, and warehouse teams.
- Support trials, process improvements, and new product qualifications.
- Communicate quality concerns and solutions clearly and efficiently.
Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- 3–5+ years of experience in manufacturing quality, preferably in paper, packaging, or converting.
- Strong knowledge of quality systems, testing methods, and paper manufacturing processes.
- Experience with ISO 9001 or comparable quality management systems.
- Proficient with SPC, control charts, and basic statistical analysis.
- Effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make decisions under pressure.
