    Child & Youth Therapist (Play Therapist)

    Location: Washington, DC

    Summary/Objective

    The Child & Youth Therapist (Play Therapist) will provide therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and transitional age youth (ages 4-15). This role includes completing biopsychosocial assessments, offering individual, family, and play therapy, and developing person-centered treatment plans. The therapist will coordinate care with caregivers and support systems to enhance client outcomes, utilizing evidence-based psychotherapy methods. The role requires a minimum of 10 hours per week, with evening and/or weekend availability.

    Essential Functions

    Complete biopsychosocial assessments, intake evaluations, and behavioral health screenings for children and adolescents.

    Develop and implement person-centered treatment plans to address the mental and emotional needs of clients.

    Provide individual, family, and play therapy to children, adolescents, and transitional age youth.

    Utilize evidence-based psychotherapy to treat clients with a variety of mental health concerns, including trauma, anxiety, and behavioral issues.

    Collaborate with caregivers, family members, and interdisciplinary staff to optimize client care and improve treatment outcomes.

    Handle confidential information and communicate policies to clients and caregivers as necessary.

    Provide clinical expertise to make determinations regarding patient services and care recommendations.

    Complete daily collaborative documentation for all scheduled services, ensuring compliance with clinical standards.

    Prepare referrals, transition plans, and discharge summaries for continuity of care.

    Make recommendations related to client safety, health, and well-being.

    Qualifications

    Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related discipline.

    Must possess one of the following District of Columbia professional licenses: LICSW, LGSW, LPC, LGPC, Psychology Associate, or Licensed Psychologist.

    At least 1 year of experience in providing child/adolescent counseling, including assessments, diagnoses (using DSM-V), crisis management, skill training, and rehabilitation supports for children and/or transitional age youth.

    Experience with facilitating access to community resources and conducting therapeutic groups.

    Strong knowledge of evidence-based therapy practices and the ability to apply them in a clinical setting.

    Evening and/or weekend availability is required.

    Preferred Experience

    Experience working with play therapy techniques, particularly for children aged 4-15.

    Familiarity with coordinating care between multiple stakeholders, including schools, community organizations, and healthcare providers.

    Multilingual abilities are a plus but not required.
