    Summary Description:

    Support mill purchasing activities for MRO Direct Buy purchases and contractor services. This position is expected to participate in providing strategic direction to the overall mill procurement process and represent individual mill interests in multi-mill purchasing activities. This is a full-time position.

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Work under the direction of the mill Purchasing Manager.
    • Provide coverage as needed for Purchasing absences.
    • Consult with production, engineering, and maintenance people to determine specifications for items to be purchased.
    • Expedite critical orders ensuring quickest delivery with best value
    • Coordinate shipment of purchases to ensure most effective use of freight, and follow up as necessary to ensure on-time delivery.
    • Maintain stock levels, usage, storage locations, and forecasting of machine clothing
    • Develop requests for proposals and analyze bids. Negotiate pricing, terms of payment, warranties, delivery requirements, and other related purchase details.
    • Work with Corporate Purchasing on specifications and mill requirements to optimize the value derived from the materials and services purchased through corporate purchasing processes.
    • Develop knowledge of commodities used by the mill, as well as supply sources for the various commodities. Research vendor capabilities, including interviewing supplier representatives, investigating financial and past performance information, and checking references.
    • Ensure that mill personnel utilize the right procurement tools to obtain required goods and services in the most expedient and cost effective manner and that items are being ordered from Tier 1 or 2 suppliers where applicable. Provide training as required.
    • Negotiate and develop outside services contracts as required, ensuring best possible terms and conditions
    • Process contracted services purchase orders and ensure service providers are approved to work on site.
    • Monitor projects in progress to ensure compliance with contracts and to resolve problems
    • Monitor and update Field Change Notices as needed
    • Review and process vendor change requests as needed
    • Coordinate involvement/contribution of mill personnel on corporate purchasing teams.
    • Provide input to the corporate purchasing group on vendor base changes, vendor performance, etc.
    • Develop, utilize, and improve purchasing processes through technology to improve purchasing systems (i.e. SAP).
    • Maintain mill purchasing records and issue related reports as required.
    • Ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance for purchasing processes.
    • Participates on Supply Management weekend duty rotation

    Required Skills

    Minimum Required Skills:

    • Experience in a manufacturing atmosphere
    • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Communicate with all levels of the organization, vendors and suppliers
    • Excellent organizational and planning skills
    • SAP knowledge

    Required Experience

    Minimum Required Experience and Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in supply management, business or related field or relevant work experience
    • Proficient in Excel
    • Good negotiating skills
