    Job Summary

    At Polar Express our Lead Installation Technician is responsible for the complete and satisfactory installation of residential HVAC equipment and accessories. Oversees the work of Installation Technician to ensure work is performed correctly, communicates with customers to answer questions, resolve problems, and ensure complete customer satisfaction. (Minimum three years of verified installation experience.)

    Primary responsibilities

    Installs heating, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment, as well as accessories, in accordance with company standards/requirements and manufacturer specifications.

    Designs, fabricates, and installs various ducts and duct fittings as necessary.

    Performs limited diagnostics, as necessary.

    Maintains a clean work area and safeguards client floors by laying drop cloths while performing installations.

    Wears floor savers while working in client homes.

    Inspects area for cleanliness after job completion.

    Completes installation forms, which reflect tasks performed for reporting accuracy and future comparison.

    Effectively communicates with customers regarding questions, concerns, and problems.

    Performs start?ups on heating, cooling systems, and other components.

    Responsible for the delivery and removal of equipment needed to complete installation work.

    Confirms the company vehicle is in safe working order.

    Ensures company property, vehicles, and tools are being properly used, maintained, and accounted for.

    Maintains safe working conditions of installation crew.

    Ensures the company vehicle is properly stocked, returns defective warranty parts to the branch, and orders/replenishes vehicle stock as needed.

    Trains apprentice to:

    Properly fill out and organize the job folder.

    Set an air conditioner, heat pump, furnace or air handler.

    Braze copper joints without leaks.

    Pull vacuums on refrigerant systems and test for tightness.

    Correctly install all versions of thermostats and wiring.

    Programs all programmable thermostats.

    Installs, wires, and plumbs all IAQ products.

    Installs ductwork transitions in sheet metal and duct board.

    Installs gas lines, flue pipes, and wiring for high- and low-voltage wiring applications as well as run flue liners.

    Always maintains a professional image by:

    Wearing only company-approved apparel.

    Following safety policies and procedures.

    Abiding by ALL company standards of performance and code of ethics.

    Maintaining a courteous demeanor with all customers and associates.

    Maintaining company vehicle, ensuring cleanliness and organization, both inside and out.

    Respecting the customer’s property.

    Participates in ALL company-sponsored training classes.

    Must have a minimum of three years of verifiable installation work history.

    Knowledge of the fundamentals of operational functionality of residential heating, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment.

    Knowledge of the layout and installation requirements of residential ductwork and fittings.

    Skilled in reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting problems with electrical, refrigerant, and duct systems on residential HVAC equipment.

    Solid communication and customer service skills.

    Must have appropriate trade tools.

    Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

    Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.

    Educational/certification requirements

    GED or High School Diploma

    EPA Certification

    PREFERRED: NATE Certification, HVAC Certification or Diploma

    Environmental conditions

    Extreme temperatures.

    Climbing, heavy lifting, loud noise, crawling, working in confined spaces, pushing/pulling, carrying equipment, bending, turning, kneeling.

    Physical requirements:

    Capability to carry items weighing 75 pounds.

    Ability to stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs.

    Ability to work in confined spaces and to maneuver in attics, basements, and crawl spaces to access HVAC units.

    Ability to continually climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.

    Natural or corrected vision to see and focus for close, distance, peripheral vision with normal depth perception.
