Pole/ Utility Inspector
We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Pole/Utility Inspector to join our team. The Pole/Utility Inspector is responsible for performing field inspections on utility poles and related infrastructure to ensure structural integrity, code compliance, and adherence to safety standards. This role is critical to maintaining the reliability and safety of electrical and communication systems, particularly in rural service areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive inspections of utility poles for decay, damage, structural soundness, unauthorized attachments, and overall compliance.
- Document conditions with inspection software, GPS devices, photos, and standardized reports.
- Identify and flag poles that require maintenance, treatment, or replacement.
- Ensure pole and attachment compliance with NESC (National Electrical Safety Code), OSHA standards, and Rural Utilities Service (RUS) specifications.
- Evaluate and verify pole loading, height clearances, and spacing, especially in areas subject to RUS funding or oversight.
- Collaborate with utility companies, engineering firms, and municipal stakeholders to report findings and coordinate remediation plans.
- Utilize GIS systems and asset management platforms for accurate data entry and recordkeeping.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and traffic control measures.
- Operate company vehicles and travel to rural and remote inspection sites as required.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training in electrical utilities, engineering, or construction preferred.
- 1–3 years of relevant experience in utility pole inspection or a closely related field.
- Familiarity with Rural Utilities Service (RUS) specifications and standards for telecommunications and electric infrastructure.
- Understanding of utility pole design, climbing techniques (if applicable), and related hardware.
- Proficiency with handheld digital inspection tools, GPS units, and mobile reporting software.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to read and interpret maps, construction drawings, and technical documentation.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently in field conditions.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working on RUS-funded projects.
- Pole climbing certification or relevant field safety training.
- Knowledge of joint-use rules and third-party attachment regulations.
- Experience with pole testing tools (e.g., resistance drills, sounding hammers).
Work Environment:
Outdoor field work in various weather and terrain conditions. May require walking long distances, climbing poles, or entering private/rural properties.
