  • Responsibilities

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE

    The Engineering Cooler Operations Intern will be tasked with creating operational efficiencies in the Receiving, Picking and Shipping departments by

    • Creating value stream maps of each of the operations surrounding Value Added, Fresh Pack and Raw items coming into the facility
    • Working with Managers, Supervisors, Forepersons to create product process flows as well as time studies for each of the departments
    • Making recommendations regarding labor savings and product quality improvements

     

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION

    • Improve productivity by performing ergonomic evaluations, time studies, simulation, and line balancing
    • Study and improve cooler safety
    • Cost analysis
    • Process documentation
    • Capacity utilization analysis
    • Taking inventory
    • Materials inspection
    • Create and deliver a final presentation to the President and executive team of Dole Fresh Vegetables.
    • Other duties as assigned

     

    INTERNSHIP TYPE

    • Bi-lingual, Spanish/English is preferred
    • Basic statistical analysis skills
    • Valid California driver’s license

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear.
    • Ability to maneuver around an array of equipment, bend, stoop, climb stairs, lift up to 25 pounds, identify and distinguish colors, and work in a cold environment.
    • Ability to walk on uneven ground

    WORK HOUR REQUIREMENT

    • 40-hour workweek, no overtime expected.
    • May need to work weekends as needed.

    Required Experience

    EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

    Fall 2022 rising Junior or Senior obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering
