    This role is with the Dole Fresh Vegetables (DFV) division.  DFV will provide INTERNAL CANDIDATES priority and consideration of their success in existing and prior roles as valid experience.

     

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:

     

    The FSQA Sanitation Program Manager is responsible for developing, managing and analyzing all programmatic elements of the sanitation programs within Dole North America to drive consistency and continuous improvement in the program.  This includes but is not limited to the following areas:  operational and agricultural related sanitation programs and routine sanitation audits of value-added facilities.  This position will create and implement internal food safety sanitation audits, manage and maintain the Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures, leverage data to drive continuous improvement, and manage third party chemical and service providers.  This position works closely with the sanitation managers and provides a professional sanitation point of contact within DFV for all regulatory, third party, or customer food safety auditors.

     

     

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:

     

    • Ensure sanitation practices and protocols are up to date and adhere to all current regulatory guidance as well as corporate requirements and standards.
    • Develop and validate plant Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) through coordination with equipment manufacturers and third-party chemical and service providers.
    • Develop and validate harvest equipment Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) through coordination with industry working groups, equipment manufacturers, and third-party chemical and service providers.
    • Ensure that sanitation programs and associated documentation are consistently executed across facilities, including coolers and VA plants.
    • Develop objective metrics to monitor performance against Dole standards and expectations for VA facilities and communicate through period reviews with plant and FSQA leadership.
    • Conduct unannounced sanitation surveillance audits at each VA facility with defined frequency and provide written report outlining areas of improvement to plant leadership.
    • Provide oversight and document corrective action planning and recommendations to remediate any gaps with regular updates to VA and Ag Operations, FSQA and business leadership.
    • Participate in microbiological investigations and foster a continuous improvement culture as it pertains to sanitary systems for both supply chain and VA facilities, which may include formal review of SSOPs and MSS.
    • Support supply chain and operations teams in the screening and hiring of potential sanitation managers and supervisors.
    • Facilitate training of sanitation managers and supervisors to ensure best practices are adopted and consistently executed against, in alignment with the organization’s sanitation program.
    • Ensure the integrity and continued operations of the food safety system and sanitation program in the event of organization or personnel changes within the company or associated facilities through on-site coverage.
    • Serves as sanitation point of contact with federal and state agencies to ensure plant compliance with regulatory issues.
    • Manage relationship with sanitation chemical and 3rd party service providers and develop objective metrics to monitor their performance against Dole standards and expectations for the VA facilities.
    • Follow all food safety requirements and GMP’s as applicable for this position.
    • Travel as needed to support sanitation activities, including audits, at associated facilities and on the farm.
    • Engage in industry sanitation working groups.
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

     

    Required Skills

    JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

    • 5-10 years of food industry experience required; experience in accountability for sanitation programs strongly preferred.
    • Experience in developing/building sanitation systems or work experience in an organization with strong sanitation and food safety systems.
    • Working knowledge of food technology, processing and microbiology.
    • Strong understanding of GMPs, HARPC and Federal/State food regulations.
    • Strong computer/statistical skills, particularly as related to data collection, manipulation and reporting.
    • Exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal). Ability to communicate and work with diverse workforce.
    • Must have the ability to make decisions, appear for work on time, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/procedures and to accept constructive criticism. Ability to work and adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Ability to travel independently.
    • Foreign Language(s): Spanish desired but not required.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    •  Ability to maneuver around an array of equipment. Must be able to work in a cold environment.  
    • Will have some exposure to fumes and airborne particles.

    WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

    •  Flexibility to work both a variety of shifts and hours.
    • Ability to travel at least 40% of the time.

     

     

     

    Required Experience

     

    EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

    •  BS Food Science, Food Processing, or related field.

    • Oversee work activity for all Food Safety Sanitation management. No direct reports.
