Regulatory Specialist/ ISO Compliance
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; however, other duties may be assigned.
Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules and regulations
Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials
Prepares studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel
Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective and preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented
Provides information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions
Complies and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies
Assist waste handling and disposal, including training to employees for proper handling of and disposal of all wastes from the facility
Assist actions taken in cases of emergency, including contacting outside agencies as needed and internal response
Maintains safety files and records and reports to OSHA, DOT, EPA and other regulatory agencies
Implements construction safety and health plans
Implements safety training which includes PPE, confined space, lockout/tag out, fall protection, respiratory protection, forklift safety, emergency training, flammable materials, hazard communication, back, and slip trips and falls safety training
Prepares reports needed for wastewater, SARA 312 and 313, and Stormwater
Operate a state- of-the-art analytical equipment laboratory.
Directly manage six Q.C. chemists
Participate in and drive performance to achieve Polyventive quality targets
Maintain and update MSDS data base of all products to ensure government environmental compliance
Manage the activities required to maintain Polyventive ISO 9001 certification. Participate in ISO 9001 audits/implementing improvements determined from ISO 9001 audits
Support new product development and maintenance of the existing product line through formulation development and processing criteria/requirements
Ensure that the laboratory is properly maintained from a hygiene and safety standpoint and that analytical equipment remains on stream
Work with cross functional teams to ensure that the products we are developing meet the needs and desires of our customer base
Customer acceptance and quality control.
Provide technical support for special needs such as raw material and engineering approvals, etc.
Provide technical support to product lines to sustain and grow current business. Support will be in form of: (1) working with Purchasing to qualify new or modified raw materials (2) Production and Processing Engineering for technical analysis of nonconforming material and continuous improvement for reject reduction and/or cost conversion. (3) Marketing, R&D, and Technical Service personnel to develop new and/or modified products to meet customer and marketplace needs including developing data, technical data sheets, engineering material testing and approval submittals to OEM.
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
To successfully perform this job, an individual must be able to perform each key responsibility in a satisfactory manner through individual effort or effective and appropriate collaboration. Additionally, the well-qualified candidate will have the following education and experience.
Bachelor degree in engineering, environmental science, occupational health and safety or similar field
3+ years of experience with Environmental, Health and Safety
The ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
Display excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Be a strong leader and team player and demonstrate ability to interact with all levels of the PSG organization.
Ability to identify and analyze issues and problems and to recommend and implement solutions
Experience in developing and presenting training to all levels of employees
OSHA training certifications preferred
Process Safety Management experience preferred
Working knowledge of domestic federal, state, and local health and safety regulations, ordinances and practices
Basic computer proficiency
Education Minimum of a four-year technical degree with an advanced degree preferred.
Have experience working in an ISO certified chemical manufacturing environment
Direct managerial experience for work groups of two or more
Must be able to draw upon other disciplines in addition to organic polymer and analytical chemistry to offer innovative problem-solving strategies and have proven problem-solving skills
Must be strong in organic analysis, synthesis, and organizational skills to establish, grow, and organize an interactive internal chemical database
Strong organic/inorganic analytical regimen
Technical knowledge of equipment, chemical/physical principles, theories, and established methodologies sufficient to perform a full range of duties involved in conducting research projects, manufacturing troubleshooting, chemical analysis, and quality assurance
Be able to perform mathematical calculations consistent with the needs of the role
Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience.
This position will travel to the various sites (Rome, Dalton, and Calhoun).
