    Job Description

    Under the supervision of an assigned administrator, assists assigned certificated teachers by performing a variety of instructional tasks, related clerical duties and other related work. Assists certificated personnel in their performance related to appropriate instruction, curriculum materials and student evaluations. Paraeducators may perform duties in one or more classrooms, resource rooms, libraries, or other instructional settings. The individual activities and duties of this position vary with particular assignments. Paraeducators will assist in providing support to English Language Learners, Low Income Pupils, and Foster Youth students. Assist with individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as instructed by the teacher; assists in monitoring, gathering information and reporting progress regarding student performance and supporting positive behavior interventions; sets up work areas, displays and exhibits, operates educational equipment, distributes and collects supplies; assists with administering a variety of tests; on occasions performs a variety of classroom related clerical duties, such as preparing instructional materials, scoring papers, and maintaining records and files; assures the safety of students by following safety practices; participates in meetings and in service training programs as required; assists students during lunch time, on the playground, on field trips or when mainstreamed into another class; may assist supervising the loading and unloading of students on school buses; assists students by providing proper examples, emotional support, and general guidance; confers, as needed, with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs; performs other related duties as assigned within classification.
