    Job Description

    Porex Corporation is currently accepting resumes for a PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER. The Product Development Engineer translates customer design inputs and internal marketing considerations onto new products and processes.  This position works under minimal supervision in establishing design objectives, testing procedures, communicating with customer, project management and transfer to production.

    JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    1. Communicates with customer to establish design input criteria and discusses material and design requirements with customer engineers.
    2. Operates CAD software to generate both 2D drawings and 3D models based on design specs, following general design principles. Applies ingenuity and knowledge of a broad range of porous plastic manufacturing processes in determining the selection, layout, detail and explanatory notes of drawings.
    3. Works with and communicates requirements to engineering technician(s) in developing prototypes for products and/or processes.
    4. Selects optimal material to meet customer functional requirements and balances customer and manufacturing requirements to optimize geometry for manufacturability.
    5. Designs experiments for testing and verification plans for new products, and coordinates tests of prototype or existing production parts. Performs design of experiments, documents test results, and prepares statistical & analytical summaries. 
    6. Prepares customized reports, analyses or technical summaries for customers as requested or as appropriate to document performance characteristics under various operational conditions. May prepare technical documentation or white papers for marketing materials.
    7. Ability to work hands on in development lab using lab equipment and tooling to make and test prototype parts.
    8. Create presentations for and lead internal meetings involving multiple departments to move projects through stage gate approval process.
    9. May be responsible for development, troubleshooting and enhancement of multiple existing products to improve performance and customer satisfaction.
    10. Work in production areas of the plant when PDE projects involve production equipment and personnel.
    11. Coordinates transfer of significant new products from design to production and collaborates with manufacturing engineering, quality engineering and other disciplines to ensure consistency of quality output, within tolerances established by customer.

    EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree with focus on Material Science, Polymer Science, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering and New Product Development, including CAD knowledge/skills.

    EXPERIENCE: 2 to 5 years experience related to development of plastic components for sale to OEMs.

    1. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and coordinate multiple activities with a wide variety of disciplines within the company.
    2. Knowledge of DOE, process capability, and statistics used in developing specifications.
    3. Excellent project management and writing skills.
    4. Work with cross functional teams and be effective at collaborating with team to achieve results.
    5. Ability to project a professional, competent image to key customers, as this position has high impact on the customer relationship.
    6. Strong problem solving skills
