    GENERAL SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Director of Design, the PMA Store Manager oversees the Portland Museum of Art’s Store and assigned staff, ensuring that the store promotes the PMA brand, visitors are well served, and that retail business needs are optimized, PMA brand is promoted through product development, and problems are resolved appropriately. The Store Manager collaborates across PMA departments to ensure exceptional interdepartmental communication to support the PMA’s goals of promoting inclusiveness, building audiences, developing and strengthening constituent relationships, and maximizing revenue.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    Oversees daily and ongoing operations to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through exceptional service delivered through all PMA Store channels, including onsite spaces and online platforms. Manages logistical coordination and implements systems through solution based, innovative leadership.

    Creates retail business strategies and identifies promotional and training needs in support of sales success in alignment with PMA exhibitions, programs, and events. Considers and develops marketing initiatives to attract new customers and expand store traffic as well as engage members and current client base toward enhancing profitability.

    Works directly with Director of Design and design team to promote PMA brand through custom designed and brand influenced products. Develops products for store requiring an understanding and interest in current product design and trends.

    Works directly with design team to promote store by adjusting provided marketing materials and signage in Adobe Creative Suite templates.

    Directly supervises the Inventory and Fulfillment Specialist, the liaison to the Director of Design and Finance department to effectively monitor store budget and inventory levels. Ensures productive and efficient use of store spaces.

    Executes initiatives to meet membership goals, sales targets, and program revenues affiliated with the PMA’s on-site and online store platforms. Manages timely reconciliation of PMA Store general ledger, Procurify processing, supplies orders, and budget items. Assists with generating reports and analyzing metrics to strategize team goalsetting and promotional opportunities. Creatively problem-solves economical use of department resources to maximize budget gains.

    Motivates Museum Experience and Safety (MEaS) Staff and mentors Gallery Ambassadors assigned to the PMA Store to meet sales objectives and proactively represent the PMA Store brand and products. Assists with personnel administration including hiring, onboarding, training, performance management and evaluation, and end-of-employment processes according to established protocols.

    Oversees organization of work areas and sets daily staff assignments, including deposits, merchandising, managing store inventory and supplies, and providing a clean and efficient PMA Store experience. Makes recommendations regarding operational improvements and suggests ways and methods to streamline procedures to attain greater efficiencies. Works with management to develop and document policies and procedures.

    Assists with customer service issues, diffuses situations, and engages in discussions with guests who make inquiries, comments, and suggestions. Maintains a highly visible presence to ensure and model consistent and appropriate implementation of procedures with excellent customer service.

    Leads communication strategies with other departments to support PMA’s goals of building audiences, developing and strengthening constituent relationships, and maximizing revenue. Manages efficient, structured communications with the PMA Café, Museum Experience and Safety, and Facilities personnel.

    Updates and troubleshoots the Store’s POS and online software, hardware, and devices, assists with museum databases and phone systems and oversight of office equipment including postage machine, printers, and fax machine.

    Fosters relationships and builds philanthropy with patrons at the PMA, as defined by displaying behavior that welcomes all individuals contacted during work.

    Supports programmatic initiatives related to PMA’s multifaceted inclusivity and diversity action plan, designed to promote inclusiveness, prevent discrimination, and create an organization that challenges and changes practices that present barriers.

    Performs special projects and other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.

    Complies and maintains familiarity with all PMA safety rules and security policies.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:Oversees the Inventory and Fulfillment Specialist and designated Gallery Ambassadors stationed in locations related to the PMA Store. Responsibilities include training, coaching, scheduling, and participating in the hiring and performance review processes.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s degree, with a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in customer service and retail management required, preferably in a museum, non-profit, or cultural environment. Experience with product and graphic design is essential. Experience with Shopify and Adobe Creative Suite applications such as InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop is preferred.QUALIFICATIONS:

    Ability to multitask, organize work, and meet deadlines with careful attention to detail in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

    Ability to effectively coordinate, train, and direct staff and volunteers.

    Ability to develop procedures for operating systems and train technical and non-technical users.

    Proven written and oral communication skills, including ability to adhere to PMA brand charter and style guide, and ability to communicate effectively with constituents in person, over the phone and via email.

    Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff, volunteers, and visitors to always exercise tact and diplomacy and to represent the museum in a positive and professional manner.

    Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with coworkers and a variety of individuals contacted in the course of work.

    Ability to operate computers and assigned software, including Microsoft Office, Altru, Shopify, and the Adobe Creative Suite applications InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

    Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

    WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Regular attendance at the workplace is required. Daily close contact with members, visitors and coworkers.

    Majority of work is performed in museum setting at the Harry Konkel Welcome Center and PMA Store, or in a normal office environment not subject to extremes of noise, temperature, odor, etc. Operates computer, phone, printer, photocopier, POS system, credit card and gift card machines, and other office equipment. Work involves extended sitting, computer use, and small muscle tasks; extended periods of standing and/or walking; and may require occasional bending and lifting.
