    TYPICAL HOURS REQUIRED: Monday - Friday, some evenings and weekends required 

    THE HARBOR  

    The Harbor is a community dedicated to restoring men who are in great need of freedom and healing from life crises and addiction. The one-year, Christ-centered residential program integrates addiction recovery, life skills training, vocational development and spiritual growth in a safe, highly relational environment. The ministry team of staff and volunteers serves to model Christ-like living to support the up to 45 male participants in achieving lasting transformation

    MISSION BAR-B-QUE

    Mission Bar-B-Que is a catering business that includes a fully operating food truck designed as a platform for Culinary vocational development to teach job readiness skills to our New Life Ministry participants. All proceeds from Mission Bar-B-Que support the work of Portland Rescue Mission to give hope and restore life to hurting people in need.     GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK

    This position oversees all operations of Mission Bar-B-Que Food Truck and Catering business while supporting the NLM Culinary Manager in the vocational training program. This business exists as a critical arm of Portland Rescue Mission’s efforts to equip New Life Ministries participants with Culinary, Catering and Hospitality work skills and life skills related to career readiness in a real work environment. These skills will contribute to program participants leading transformed lives and being self-sufficient within their available resources.

    ESSENTIAL OUTCOMES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Program participants receive consistent and fruitful care in compliance with NLM manual, foundational ministry principles and strengths-based approach to individual and team growth, resulting in the accomplishment of the PRM Ends Statement.
    • Program Participants will become self-sufficient through gaining job skills in the Culinary/Catering and Hospitality industries.
    • Program participants, volunteers, catering customers and staff will experience professional food service and catering services that communicate the value of each individual and steward PRM resources well.
    • Program Participant progress in vocational development will be accurately tracked through effective communication with relevant New Life Ministries staff.
    • Program Participants will be appropriately cared for and grow in their program through accurate and timely documentation of program interactions in the Resident Tracker Database.

    MINISTERIAL DUTIES

    • Maintain a highly-relational, Christ-centered team-based culture in The Harbor kitchen and at all Catering functions where biblically based discipleship and prayer are a regular part of daily team interactions.
    • Share a clear message of the Gospel and engage in evangelism when opportunities arise in day-to-day interactions.
    • Teach biblical principles as they apply in job and life readiness to program participants through formal trainings and informal interactions.

    GENERAL FUNCTIONS

    • Perform, train and oversee food prep and delivery for the Culinary Vocational Training Program.
    • Ensure efficiency of Food Truck/Catering operations, including but not limited to; event coordination, ordering/food procurement, inventory control, cost control, waste management, monitor quality of product and service provided, maintaining equipement (food truck & catering vehicles, smokers,etc.), managing health and safety standards as per County Health Dept., OSHA and Servsafe guidelines.
    • Foster environment of continued growth and development by supporting NLM Culinary Manager in the training and equipping of partipants in Culinary Vocational Training Program; particularly that which pertains to Food Truck/Catering.
    • Build team-based environments for work training through communication and collaboration with New Life Ministries staff pertaining to vocational, job readiness development.
    • Maintain ministry guidelines and procedures for all participants using accountability growth tools. Document through resident database.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • 1 year of Catering and or Food Truck experience
    • 2 years of Customer Service experience preferred
    • Able to lift 50-75 pounds
    • Ability to stand for several hours at a time
    • Ability to perform tasks with lifting, bending, carrying, reaching, climbing
    • Possess a valid driver’s license
    • Possess a current Food Handler’s Card
    • Ability to follow detailed instructions
    • Ability to teach, coach and train while speaking daily biblical truths into lives of participants as it pertains to Career Readiness/Life Skills.
    • Be prompt and thorough in job performance
    • Demonstrate ability to work with a team
    • Ability to read and follow recipes
    • Proficient in documentation, organization and scheduling
    • Experience in Microsoft Windows software
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Self starter
    • Creative and logical problem solving
