    Job Description

    The Hebrew/Judaics Teacher will provide instruction to students to guide them in their acquisition of the Hebrew language and/or promote Jewish education as a lifelong journey that is meaningful, dynamic, and inspiring. The Hebrew/Judaic Teacher will facilitate student learning using various Jewish texts to teach text-study skills as well as develop a love of learning and a foundation for students' Jewish identity. The Hebrew/Judaics Teacher will work with the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, the teacher will design and implement highly engaging lessons that involve students in actively using and developing their language skills at age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate levels. Using a variety of tools and resources, the educator will facilitate learning experiences that are tailored to the individual needs of each student and will assess student growth towards achieving proficiency in articulated learning goals at each level. The Hebrew/Judaics educator will foster a sense of belonging to the Jewish people and cultivate strong ties with Medinat Yisrael (the State of Israel) and Am Yisrael (the Jewish people). Responsibilities and Duties:  Set high academic standards for every student in class while still adapting to the individual needs of each student.  Prepare lesson plans in advance that teach core objectives and principles for each grade and level.  Ability to teach Judaic studies using classical texts and commentaries.  Daily integrate all four language skills (listening comprehension, speaking, reading, writing) into classroom activities and assignments.  Track and report performance data to determine where changes need to be made and which strategies and methods are working.  Assess students' abilities by applying the four skills and ensure that students are indeed progressing toward the goal of Hebrew and Judaics proficiency.  Educate students in various topics at their age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate level, including but not limited to Prayer, Tanach, Talmud, Holidays, Jewish laws and practice, Pirkei Avot, Jewish Philosophy, Jewish Literature, and Jewish History.  Lead a tefilah group each morning.  Utilize pre assessments to gauge student prerequisite skills and inform instruction.  Contribute to and participate in grade-level, division, and department-wide programming.  Attend special events held by the school and engage with students and/or parents in an appropriate, friendly way.  Attend work a maximum of eight working days prior to the commencement of classes and two administrative days following the conclusion of the spring semester of the school year.  Participate in the ongoing curriculum development of the school and attend all teacher meetings.  Communicate with the parents of each student on a regular basis and maintain confidentially both on and off campus.  Perform other duties as may be deemed necessary for the efficient operation of the department and school such as lunch duties, carpools, clubs, etc.  It is essential for the Employee to arrive on time to work every scheduled workday. It is essential for the Employee to maintain good attendance and give ample notice, when possible when the Employee will be absent. It is essential for Employees to speak to co- workers with respect and to follow all of the requirements and expectations in the Employee Handbook. Qualifications: The Hebrew/Judaics Teacher must a bachelor's degree or higher or Rabbinic ordination or seminary degree in education. They must have a CAJE teaching certificate or be working towards this certification. A temporary certificate in Judaics studies is acceptable as well. Must have the ability to teach all grades and levels of Hebrew/Judaics. The Hebrew/Judaics teacher must have two years of teaching experience. They must be proficient in the use of instructional technology and online textbooks. Salary based on experience.
