OPERATIONS MANAGER
Job Description
This position reports directly to the VP of Manufacturing. This individual will be responsible for supervising and developing shop floor supervisors / leadership. This person is further responsible for promoting a positive, team oriented, work environment and ensuring quality production that meets customer needs.
Position Responsibilities
Manage People
Provide leadership to shop floor supervisors and shop associates. Build a cohesive, engaged and motivated team.
Set work and quality expectations for shop floor supervisors \ associates and manage performance to those expectations. Provide prompt feedback to each employee.
Complete and share annual performance evaluations and individual development plans. Work with employees to support their professional development. Recommend compensation changes.
Ensure that employees have the training and resources needed to perform their jobs well.
Lead / assist training activities and ensure cross training of shop floor associates.
Build and develop team approaches to problem solving and continuous improvement.
Maintains appropriate staffing levels.
Work with HR team on interviewing, hiring, and onboarding.
Enforce adherence to company policies as stated in the company handbook.
Manage workflow
Plan / oversee day-to-day operations, assign manpower, authorize overtime and control costs in a manner which achieves goals.
Prioritize work schedules based on sales / production schedules.
Issue work orders and assign employees to work centers based upon the skill set and capabilities.
Works with production planning and supply chain to ensure efficient shop operations.
Collaborate with production planning and sales to manage sales orders to meet or exceed customer requirements.
Assist production planning to develop visual tools to give employees and management better visibility to status of workload.
Work with Purchasing to ensure proper materials are in stock to complete the work orders.
Quality & Safety
Ensures safe work environment and associates are working safely.
Monitor production quantity and quality throughout the day.
Lead and maintain 5s / housekeeping activities.
Ensure employee conformance to established procedures and quality standards.
Work with the Quality Management team to continuously improve quality practices.
Help produce key quality metrics on a monthly basis.
Monitor employee work practices to ensure that work is being performed safely.
Work with the safety team to promote and improve safety programs.
Projects
Establish and implement improvements for cost reduction, productivity and inventory management.
Develop / assist detailed work instructions for all work centers.
Assist or manage site facilities including maintenance and new equipment proposals with VP of Manufacturing.
Additional projects as required.
Position Requirements
College degree in engineering or management preferred
5 years’ experience managing in a manufacturing company
Experience in lean manufacturing, 5S, ISO desired
Microsoft Office experience
Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
