    At Potrero Medical, our mission is to help clinicians transform patient care by developing a predictive technology platform for supporting the early detection of critical illnesses.

    Our medical device, the Accuryn® Monitoring System, received 510(k) clearance from the FDA in 2016 and helps hospitals accurately measure patients’ vital signs such as urine output, body core temperature, and intra-abdominal pressure.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    Potrero Medical is a high-growth commercial stage medical device company delivering disruptive products and services to improve patient outcomes and quality of life, healthcare professional productivity, and hospital cost of care. The Controller will play a major role in supporting the continuous growth and expansion of Potrero Medical and be a business partner for the executive management team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive accounting knowledge, operational experience, a savvy, business-oriented mindset, and proven management capabilities. This is an exciting and high-visibility position that reports to the CFO.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS ( Included but not limited to)

    • Oversee all Potrero Medical financial and accounting activities.
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual US GAAP financial statements and reporting packages including analytical analyses.
    • Manage the daily operations: cash, AP, AR, Payroll, general accounting, inventory and COGS accounting, tax planning and compliance, reporting (including daily and ad hoc revenue and cash reporting).
    • Guides Company financial decisions by continuously driving to improve processes, policies, and systems to support the company’s growth, improve productivity, and control costs.
    • Be an active partner with sales leadership to design, implement and maintain sales commission and incentive programs; calculate commissions to be paid out to the sales team.
    • Manage all collections and credit risk activities related to the company’s sales activities and customer relationships.
    • Manage Potrero Medical’s DSO, DPO and cash flow forecasting.
    • Ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions for new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates. Process payroll on an as needed basis.
    • Be a partner with the operations team to manage and account for all inventory related activities including cost accounting in a standard cost ERP environment.
    • Oversee tax filings including sales tax, federal and state tax returns, and various other filings employer taxes. Maintain a contemporaneous nexus assessment and ensure compliance with all relevant tax jurisdictions.
    • Lead the quarterly and monthly closing process, year-end audits and other corporate financial mandatory requirements. Continuously strive to improve routine processes.
    • Analyze and improve internal processes and controls to increase overall effectiveness and productivity.
    • Plan, manage, and deliver annual budgets and regular forecast updates.
    • Prepare the financial presentation for all board meetings.
    • Be responsible for operational data integrity and accuracy in compliance with corporate policies.
    • Support the company’s financing activities and preparation for a possible IPO.
    • Coach, train and develop the finance team members.
    • Perform additional responsibilities or other functions as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • At least 10-12 years of experience, with 5-7 years of diverse progressing managerial experience.
    • At least 3 years of experience in the medical device industry with a commercial organization.
    • C.P.A.
    • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
    • Ability to prioritize (80/20) and focus.

    • Experience with fully integrated ERP system(s). Experience with QAD and Planful strongly preferred.
    • Must be able to meet hospital credentialing requirements.
    • Responsible for performing all duties in compliance with FDA’s Quality System Regulation (QSR), ISO13485, ISO 14971, the Canadian Medical Device Regulations, and all other international regulatory requirements with which Potrero Medical complies.

    PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

    The below skills are attributes that are not mandatory but are desired in the ideal candidate.

    • Big 4 experience.
    • Strong technical capabilities and data management skills.
    • Experience with both public and private growth companies strongly preferred.
    • Multistate and multinational experience preferred.

    EDUCATION

    • B.A. in Business, Accounting, Finance, or similar program.

    • Advanced degree such as M.B.A. preferred.

    • This job operates in a professional office environment.

    Pay : $180,000 to $285,000, depending on experience and geographic location.
