Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated pre-health bachelor’s-level student (pre-med, pre-PA, public health, health informatics, or related field) to join our clinic as a Pre-Health Student Assistant. This is a paid internship designed to provide meaningful exposure to population health, quality metrics, AI-supported care coordination, and value-based care within a physician-led primary care setting.
This role is ideal for students interested in medicine, healthcare systems, public health, or healthcare innovation who want hands-on experience in how modern outpatient clinics improve outcomes at the population level.
What You Will Learn
Students in this role will gain real-world experience in:
- Population health management and preventive care workflows
- Quality metrics (HEDIS, ACO measures, chronic disease benchmarks)
- How clinics track, report, and improve quality performance
- Value-based care models in primary care
- Care gap identification and outreach strategies
- The role of AI tools in care coordination and patient engagement
- Clinic operations, team-based care, and interdisciplinary workflows
This is not a shadow-only position —you will contribute meaningfully to clinic operations while learning how data and systems improve patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with population health and quality improvement projects
- Track and organize quality metrics under supervision
- Help identify preventive care and chronic disease care gaps
- Support care coordination and patient outreach initiatives
- Assist with administrative and workflow tasks related to value-based care
- Observe clinical visits when appropriate and with patient consent
- Participate in team huddles and quality improvement discussions
Note: This role does not include scribing, diagnosing, or performing clinical procedures.
Training & Supervision
- Paid, non-exempt employee (hours tracked; meal/rest breaks honored)
- Structured onboarding and supervision
- HIPAA and OSHA training provided
- Assigned physician or senior staff mentor
- Clear learning objectives and regular feedback
Affiliation with a school program is not required , but students are welcome to use this internship toward academic credit if their institution allows.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled bachelor’s-level student (or recent graduate)
- Interest in medicine, public health, healthcare systems, or health technology
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Professional communication and reliability
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
