🌿 Pre-K Teacher | Kindergarten Readiness
About Sylvania Children's Center
For over 30 years, Sylvania Children's Center has served Toledo families as a NAEYC Accredited, Step Up To Quality Gold Rated program. We have a structured onboarding program, a Mentor Teacher Program, and leadership that actively coaches and develops every educator on our team. We don't just hire warm people — we build serious educators.
Our Pre-K classroom has one clear mission: send children to Kindergarten genuinely ready, academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally.
Who Thrives Here
Not every candidate is the right fit for SCC — and we mean that as a compliment to the ones who are.
The educators who grow fastest here are the ones who:
Crave structure over ambiguity — they thrive inside a well-run program with clear systems and expectations
See feedback as fuel — they're coachable, apply corrections quickly, and treat coaching as part of the job
Come to work wanting to grow, not just get through the day
Want to be part of something bigger than their classroom — a team, a culture, a standard worth upholding
Are motivated to develop the people around them, not just the children they serve
If you're warm, skilled, and hungry to grow inside a high-standard program — we want to hear from you.
The Role
The Pre-K Teacher at SCC has a specific mission: prepare children for Kindergarten. That means intentional literacy and numeracy instruction, executive function development, and the social-emotional skills children need in a structured school setting. You'll teach toward clear benchmarks — phonological awareness, letter recognition, number sense, writing their name, following multi-step directions — and communicate that progress to families.
Responsibilities
Plan and implement a Pre-K curriculum aligned with Ohio Early Learning Standards and K-readiness benchmarks
Deliver intentional instruction in early literacy (phonological awareness, letter recognition, print concepts), numeracy, and language development
Build executive function skills: self-regulation, attention, and following multi-step directions
Develop social-emotional readiness: cooperation, independence, conflict resolution, and classroom routines
Conduct developmental assessments (ASQ & TSG) and track Kindergarten readiness progress
Communicate meaningfully with families about their child's milestones and next steps
Submit lesson plans, maintain attendance and portfolio records
Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development (min. 20 hours/year)
What We Require
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field — required; CDA with documented Pre-K experience considered
Must meet Ohio licensing requirements for the preschool age group
Knowledge of Pre-K frameworks, Ohio Early Learning Standards, and K-readiness benchmarks
1+ year implementing structured curriculum in an early childhood setting preferred
A coachable, outcomes-oriented mindset and the professionalism your team and families can rely on
