    SUMMARY  Manage the procurement and distribution of materials, parts, equipment, and supplies for the organization by performing the following duties.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Review and analyze purchase requisitions.

    Coordinate purchasing activities with manufacturing, planning and engineering departments to acquire inventory in a cost effective and timely manner.

    Process purchase requisitions, purchase change orders and requests for quotes to suppliers.

    Responsible for procurement business system data input and integrity.

    Perform cost analysis and volume planning for major commodities (e.g. materials, components) and recommend solutions.   

    Negotiate out-of-the-box solutions and manage long-term agreements with suppliers or outsourced partners for cost, quality, and lead time. Understand and analyze supplier financial reports including monitoring agency reports to assess suppliers' financial health.

    Develop and implement cost reduction strategies.

    Monitor the cost, schedule and scope of suppliers to negotiate highest quality at best value.

    Hold suppliers accountable for their performance.  Provide and manage corrective action plans.

    Demonstrated technical ability to understand drawings and schematics.

    Develop new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are no longer competitive.

    Audit supplier processes for best practices and recommend areas for improvement and offer developmental plans.

    Interact closely with suppliers and QA to resolve quality issues.

    Communicate mitigation plans for supplier performance issues and impacts to management, addressing all aspects of commodity management.  Identify and develop supplier risk assessment and mitigation plans.

    Successfully apply domestic or global expertise of assigned commodities.

    Demonstrate a familiarity of lean initiatives and ISO requirements.

     ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  

     Mentor, provide guidance, and lead small teams of more junior Buyers.

     Demonstrate a familiarity of lean initiatives and ISO requirements.

    QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE  Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university and 7-10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.                

     

    CERTIFICATE/LICENSES/SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

    Percent of travel required up to 20%.

    Ability to travel internationally.

    Purchasing Management Certification preferred. 

    Lean management and six sigma training preferred

    Proven track record of supplier management, cost reduction, inventory management, and accountability..

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Ability to read, write, comprehend and speak English sufficiently well to perform job functions.

    Ability to manage and recommend kanban, cost out and lead time reduction initiatives are required.

    Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office; experience with Microsoft Access required.  Advanced knowledge of MRP required. 

    Project Management skills required.

    Intermediate knowledge of advanced planning software.
