    POSITION OVERVIEW

    Subject matter expert performing complex finance functions including, but not limited to accounting, financial reporting, or analysis with minimal instruction or guidance.  Utilize general accounting and financial principles and techniques to support various activities within and outside of financial management covering complex assignments with diverse scope.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Participates in processes to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records
    • Supports internal and external audit requests
    • Keeps apprised of the changing accounting and regulatory landscape through research of technical guidance
    • Documents business processes, identifies controls and deficiencies in business processes, and tests identified controls
    • Verifies the accuracy of journal vouchers and accounting classifications, and completes associated account reconciliations
    • Offers leadership and direction to others and may have supervisory responsibilities
    • Identifies, recommends and implements ongoing process improvements
    • Applies accounting knowledge and has direct responsibilities for the completion of:
      • Quarterly accruals for insurance companies, including but not limited to Actuarial, Tax, Intercompany reinsurance
      • Coordination of intercompany accounting and reconciliations between Penn Mutual and affiliates
      • Statutory and GAAP consolidation
      • Tracking of quarterly close entries to ensure timely completion
      • Collaboration with other business areas to understand their accounting needs, and enhance processes
    • Complies with all company and site policies and procedures
    • Performs various other related duties, assignments and special projects as assigned

    Required Skills

    • Strong data analysis skills including the ability to work with pivot tables, advanced formulas and modeling
    • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels and present information (written and verbal) clearly, consistently and accurately
    • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
    • Must be detail-oriented and be able to handle multiple tasks/projects as well as exercise initiative and follow-through to meet deadlines
    • Ability to make a positive contribution as demonstrated by learning new skills and making suggestions for process/procedure improvement
    • Ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment

    Required Experience

    • 5 years of related accounting experience
    • Public Accounting experience strongly preferred
    • Life insurance statutory and GAAP or broker-dealer accounting experience is required
    • GL conversion experience would be beneficial

     

    EDUCATION/LICENSES/PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
    • Master’s degree in accounting is a plus
    • CPA is strongly preferred
