SUMMARY

The Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) team at Precision BioSciences is looking for a creative and self-directed individual to develop an analysis pipeline for a newly adopted assay, SITEseq. SITEseq is an NGS assay that tracks the sites of possible off-target cutting during gene editing and can help us understand the specificity and safety of our gene correction platform. The applicant will be responsible for both the preprocessing and alignment pipeline as well as downstream evaluation of the assay itself. The intern can also expect to be involved in general NGS housekeeping tasks such as comparing software versions, quality metrics, etc. This internship is expected to be full-time, working 40 hours per week for approximately 12 weeks in the summer.

• Develops SITE-seq analysis pipeline. This may be done using Bash, Python, Galaxy, or a workflow system
• Evaluates SITE-seq data; regularly communicating with wetlab team
• Uses scripting best-practices and version control (i.e. Github)
• Assist with other department projects as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.

• Prefer current student in Bioinformatics, Genetics, Biology, Computer Science, or similar programs
• Applicant should be very comfortable in at least one common bioinformatics programming language such as R, Python, or Unix shell scripting
• Basic genetics knowledge is essential; previous NGS experience is a plus

LOCATION

• This is a primarily office-based position associated with the main headquarters in downtown Durham, NC. For the time being, this role will be able to function remotely in accordance with company safety guidelines throughout the duration of the pandemic but is subject to change as needed.
