    Clinical Trial Accountant

     

    SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Clinical Trial Accountant will be responsible for key aspects of the monthly and quarterly financial statement close process related to the clinical trial accrual process. They will perform technical accounting research as needed, support compliance with internal controls, and support and/or provide project management for key accounting initiatives. They will be comfortable working with multiple vendors through complex contracts. This role will provide decision support to the clinical study managers through budgeting, forecasting, and reporting clinical operations, assisting with the review and monitoring of related contracts, as well as preparing monthly accruals for clinical contracts.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • With the Clinical Operations team, assist in the preparation of budgets for clinical trials

    • With the Clinical Operations team, forecast clinical trial expenses.

    • Analyze monthly and quarterly results for all clinical activities to review forecast accuracy and update projections.

    • Track open commitments for clinical contracts.

    • Build and cultivate strong working relationships with CROs and other vendors supporting our clinical trials and clinical department; be the primary liaison and subject matter expert in all financial aspects of clinical trials.

    • Monitor all clinical contracts and related invoices to ensure accuracy and completeness.

    • Prepare monthly accrual journal entries for all clinical trials activity and clinical operations and related account reconciliations

    • Supports process improvements related to the clinical trial accruals, including the elimination of redundancy, ad-hoc projects, implementation of systems, and other duties assigned to help scale with company growth.

    • Plays an integral role in ensuring that day-to-day internal controls for areas of responsibility are operating as designed. Assists in the design, development, and maintenance of formalized control procedures surrounding areas of responsibility.

    • Prepare audit deliverables and interacts regularly with external auditors.

    • Stays current on technical accounting guidance, and performs research and analysis on current, new, or pending technical guidance as needed.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent, CPA

    • Minimum of 4 years of experience, including big 4 audit experience

    • Strong understanding of the unique aspects of accounting for clinical trials and manufacturing contracts

     

    FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

    • Experience with ERP accounting software

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Project

    • Previous experience developing financial operating policies and procedures

    • Strong analytical skills

    • Ability to manage highly confidential material in an appropriate manner

    • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills

    • Intermediate to Advanced MS Excel proficiency

    • Goal orientated and self-motivated; ability to work efficiently and productively in an intense, entrepreneurial environment

    • Strong written and oral communication skills

    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; willingness to accept responsibility for projects/processes

    • Comfortable in an interrogative environment; embraces collaboration and open debate to manage projects, solve problems and discuss challenging issues

    • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task are essential
