    Precision Life Sciences is working with a client that is seeking an experienced intellectual property lawyer to join a growing and high-performing team, lead its intellectual property protection and enforcement efforts, manage an expanding and complex intellectual property portfolio and oversee related matters for the company. Reporting to the EVP, General Counsel, the successful candidate will be an accomplished patent prosecutor with sound business and legal judgment who is also self-motivated and capable of independently leading the company’s intellectual property function.

    Specific Responsibilities Include

    The VP, Intellectual Property will partner extensively with R&D, scientific, and business teams to develop, drive and enhance the organization’s intellectual property strategies.

    • Developing, implementing, and communicating optimal strategies that protect and expand the company’s IP assets, and otherwise advance the Company’s business objectives.
    • Providing IP support for a wide variety of business transactions.

    Overseeing and managing IP-related outside counsel and vendor relationships managing on a wide range of issues involving patents, trade secrets, trademarks, and copyrights, including agreements, freedom to operate, M&A, and IP risk mitigation.

    • Advising the executive team and other scientific and business teams on intellectual property opportunities, risks, and other related matters.
    • Working closely with collaboration partners on certain intellectual property matters.
    • Cost-effectively managing the company’s IP budget.

    The Ideal Candidate Will Have 

    • At least 15 years experience and expertise in patent and intellectual property law and preparing and prosecuting patents.
    • At least 10 years’ in-house experience, preferably with a biotechnology company.
    • Experience prosecuting patent applications for peptide-based therapeutics.
    • Extensive experience with intellectual property transactions and agreements.
    • Experience supporting a branded pharmaceutical business is preferred.
    • Experience managing outside counsel and establishing and monitoring legal budgets.
    • Experience managing intellectual property litigation is preferred.
    • Ph.D. or MS in [Organic Chemistry,] or other similar technical degrees.
    • JD from an accredited law school.
