Position Summary
The Humanities Teacher plans, organizes, and implements an appropriate instructional program rooted in science, technology, engineering, and math in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
Essential Functions
- Prompt familiarity and compliance with the Buffalo Prep Teacher’s Manual, including academic and disciplinary policies, as well as pedagogical practices.
- Ability to actualize and contribute to a Culturally Relevant-Sustaining curriculum through Culturally Relevant-Sustaining pedagogical practices.
- Design and implement engaging, humanities curriculum that supports academic growth.
- Engage students through interactive lessons and age-appropriate teaching strategies.
- Support student comprehension through differentiated instruction.
- Willingness to establish office hours at Buffalo Prep to allow for connecting with and mentoring of students outside of the classroom setting.
- Willingness to work approximately five weeks during the summer and Saturday mornings during the academic year.
- Must become acclimated and committed to the Buffalo Prep mission, culture, and student population.
- Maintain program records in a timely manner.
- Work with other staff members to provide student data in accordance with stated timeframes.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Prep Scholars Academy Program Manager, Chief Program Officer, Executive Director, President, and/or management.
- Adheres to all policies including Buffalo Prep’s Stop Light Policy and mandated reporting as outlined by NYS Office of Children and Family Services.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a Humanities related field.
- Familiarity with NYS ELA and social studies requirements.
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proficiency in Spanish.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must possess the ability to work with a number of constituencies including students and their families, high school personnel, Buffalo Prep staff, Board of Directors, and others.
- Experience with Culturally Responsive curriculum and pedagogy.

Requirements
