A Child Care Center Preschool Teacher Assistant is responsible to assist the lead teacher in the academic, social-emotional growth and development of children in their care. The primary function of the teacher assistant is to work with the lead teacher, parents, and administrators to improve students’ experience and meet teaching objectives. Additionally, the teacher assistant will execute the plans given by the lead teacher, and help evaluate children’s development.
A Teacher Assistant Must:
Be at least 18 years of age
Have a high school diploma or equivalent education
Have at least 1 year of experience working with children and/or a certificate/degree in early childhood education or currently working towards the completion of one
Submit to background check
Be CPR, First Aid certified or obtain certification upon hire
Complete orientation and applicable trainings upon hire
Complete a physical and provide a physician’s documentation of immunizations
Meet all applicable ODJFS licensing regulations
Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a large group of children alone in a classroom
Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences
Have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities
Be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull and play with preschool children
Be available for full and/or part time employment
Have dependable transportation
Specific Duties include but not limited to:
Help to maintain classroom environment in good conditions, execute lessons, and supervision of children at all times
Help maintain established classroom structure; ensure that child possessions are organized, child rules and consequences are fair and consistent, and follow routines to ensure that children feel safe and comfortable throughout the day
