    JOB SUMMARY

    This position will support the QA/ Food Safety Manager to execute processes implemented and tasks assigned in the Quality Department.  This role will support the ongoing assurance of the food safety program as well as specifications of all products produced in the plant. Additionally, the Quality Supervisor will champion at the plant level our commitment to producing World-Class Quality Pet Food by conducting regular and random audits internally both within the Quality department and across the Plant and regular and consistent training of Quality Technicians and Food Safety processes Plant wide.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

    • Ensures compliance to all regulatory standards including HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point), FSMA (Federal Information Security Management Act), and SSOP’s (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures), etc.
    • Lead the Plant Quality Team, hold weekly meetings.  Schedule timeline and tasks of QA technicians
    • Train and monitor employees in the sampling of raw materials, in-process and finished products.
    • Manages and performs microbiological sampling to validate hand washing.
    • Performs training of proper handwashing practices for employees that display improper handwashing techniques.
    • Routinely monitor the drying process ensuring optimum temperature, water activity quality/level, and through-put.
    • May assist with quality audits such as third party audits, customer audits, and internal audits.
    • Participate in Daily Gemba updates and plant walkthroughs
    • Ensure metal detectors are checked and calibrated as specified.
    • Monthly Food Safety Inspections of the entire facility. Maintain records of the inspections. Follow up on corrective actions including work orders generated as a result of the inspections.
    • Review consumer complaints and escalate to manager as necessary.
    • Verify and validate food safety and quality processing controls
    • Report non-compliant and laboratory testing results
    • Assist with Raw material and finished product specification updates
    • Assists QA Manager in completing performance evaluations.
    • Works with QA Manager to discipline workers as appropriate.
    • Assumes some responsibilities of the QA Manager in their absence.
    • Performs assignments in accordance with established Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
    • Train and oversee Quality Technicians. Ensures that quality technicians maintain the desired level of department performance by (1) managing quality assurance checks including monitoring AQL’s (acceptable quality levels); (2) validating quality checks against production specifications for both attribute and variable data collection and; (3) managing products placed on hold.
    • Participate in Mock Recalls four times per year;
    • File all Quality/Food Safety Systems Paperwork
    • Insert laboratory results into companywide inventory management programs to release products for distribution when all data is within specification.  Ensure all releases are completed or updated within a given timeframe.
    • Assist with maintaining overall cleanliness of the facility; perform periodic Pre-Op inspections;
    • Displays appropriate work ethics in the workplace and group settings which provides a positive influence on the production floor.
    • Other duties as assigned

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This position has direct oversight over at minimum 5 Quality Technicians.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

    • Four-year degree in a Science/Agriculture/Food related field; _at least _3 years of experience in the food manufacturing industry in a Quality role or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of Quality Processes and Systems including but not limited to SPC, HACCP, SSOP, FDA/USDA, and GMP’s.

    • Good ability to read, speak and communicate in English with employees, direct supervisors, team leads, and upper management. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.

    • Ability to use mathematical and statistical knowledge to assess data and determine process capabilities

    • Exceptionally strong communication skills, both oral and written and strong managerial skills including good judgment, planning, organizing, innovative approach to problem-solving, motivate employees

    •  

    • Experience with Customer and Vendor management as well as familiarity with third-party auditing processes

    • Ability to prioritize and follow-through to achieve results and meet deadlines to meet the needs of the business

    • Strong leadership skills, with an ability to build trust, provide direction, and vitality to execute with excellence and achieve extraordinary results.

    • Fluent with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook

    •  

    • HACCP and PCQI certification _REQUIRED. _ Must be willing to become an SQF or BRC practitioner when needed.
