Position Purpose

This part-time position requires the Primary School art teacher to create a nurturing and creative environment that fosters artistic exploration and development in young children.

Key Accountabilities

• Plan engaging and varied art projects that encourage exploration of different materials, techniques, and concepts.
• Cultivate culturally competent art classrooms by establishing and maintaining a respectful and conscientious environment.
• Collaborate with the vertical team and grade-level teams to ensure art curriculum continuity between Primary and Lower School and art curriculum integration. The vertical team monitors and advances the overall program's quality and students' progress and success.
• Maintain curriculum documentation following Lower School division requirements.
• Tailor instruction to meet individual students' diverse needs and learning styles according to the accommodations outlined in Student Support Plans, ensuring that each child can engage with and excel in art education.
• Stay current with art education trends, methodologies, and resources by pursuing professional development opportunities.
• Attend and contribute to regular grade‐level, vertical, divisional, and all-employee meetings.
• Fulfill other duties as assigned, such as lunch, recess, study hall, and carpool duty. Participate fully in the School community through club sponsorship, coaching, event attendance, or other means.

Opportunities and Challenges

The Primary School art teacher prepares students for the Lower School art program. The teacher helps students develop effective habits, skills, and attitudes. The teacher must:

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree is required, with preference in art or elementary education; an advanced degree is preferred.
• Minimum of three years of experience teaching art to Primary or Lower School students preferred.
• Must meet minimum technology proficiency standards, including the ability to work in online Student Information and Learning Management Systems, schedule and conduct classes via Microsoft Teams and Zoom, and use the Microsoft 365 suite.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift approximately 30 lbs.
• Ability to work for extended periods, including weeknights and weekends when required.
• Ability to work with children and adults in indoor and outdoor settings.
• Ability to work on-campus, at home, day trips, and overnight trips.
