    Job Description

    We are looking for a Research Analayst to join our US Gulf of Mexico Upstream Team in Houston. Our dedicated oil and gas sector teams are located around the world and deliver research and consulting projects based on our assessment and valuation of thousands of individual assets. Together we work with a range of clients including national and major oil companies, operators, investment banks and institutional investors.

    This role is full-time and designated as an Upstream Research Analyst.

    ABOUT THE DAY TO DAY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE

    • You will join a team of analysts and subject matter experts that provide comprehensive and thought-provoking research on the upstream industry
    • You will be adept at valuing oil and gas assets and understand the key issues that inform that valuation
    • You will also form opinions on corporate strategies, business environment, exploration, M&A deals, petroleum economics, government energy policy and regional geopolitics
    • You will be able to prioritise what matters to clients and the team, having regular interaction with senior business stakeholders
    • You will ensure that we embrace new technologies or techniques to improve data processes and workflow
    • You will also work with client management and consulting to generate new research, sales and consulting opportunities

    ABOUT YOU AND HOW YOU CAN EXCEL IN THIS ROLE

    You are passionate about upstream oil and gas and you are developing an in-depth understanding of the energy sector. You have an analytical mindset and an eye for detail, which has been proven in your academic and work experience to date. You are comfortable collecting and interpreting data, articulating your findings in a clear and insightful manner. You also have a flair for writing and communication. 

    Your long-term aspiration is to be an influential subject matter expert setting the industry agenda. You are looking for a role where you can build on your existing knowledge and learn from others in a collaborative, commercial and client-centric environment. You also enjoy sharing what you have learnt with others. The way in which you work is productive and driven, striving to be best in class.

    You possess the following required core competencies:

    • Prior relevant work experience in the offshore upstream sector: at least two years at an oil and gas company, upstream service company or in energy finance
    • An educational background in either Engineering/Geosciences or Business/Economics
    • Prior experience with petroleum economics, financial valuation and commercial modelling. Work or internship experience with an oil and gas company, upstream service company or in energy finance is a plus
    • Structured thinking, problem solving and analytical skills
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build and develop relationships with people at all levels in an organization
    • Strong communication skills
